2016 International Bowl Expo concludes in Las Vegas

2016IBELogo.jpgOrganized by the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA), the 2016 International Bowl Expo (IBE) took place June 26-30 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

As the industry’s leading annual trade show, IBE featured a wide variety of exhibits for products and services, as well as a set agenda of interactive seminars and “how-to” workshops aimed to assist bowling center proprietors with leveraging the best tools and strategies to strengthen their businesses.

2016IBERandyGulleyJasonBelmonte.jpgRenowned Denver Broncos quarterback, Peyton Manning (pictured above), was the selected keynote speaker and kicked off the General Session on the 29th with a presentation speech about his insights surrounding the importance of teamwork, leadership, and keys to success in any endeavor.

The Bowling Industry Service Awards were presented at the Annual Awards Luncheon, Tuesday, June 28.

President’s Medal awarded to Jeff Bojè

Jeff Bojè of Brandon Crossroads Bowl, Tampa, Florida (center with Tom Martino, BPAA President, right, and Frank DeSocio, BPAA Executive Director) was recognized with the President’s Medal for his numerous contributions and years of service to the BPAA. The President’s Medal is given to an individual (proprietor/manager) judged to have given exceptional support and/or made significant contributions to the association in the eyes of the current BPAA president and the Awards Committee.

Storm Bowling awarded the IBMA Alberta E. Crowe Meritorious Service Award

Barbara and Bill Chrisman (pictured with Keith Hamilton, left, President of the International Bowling Media Association) of Storm Bowling were awarded the IBMA Alberta E. Crowe Meritorious Service Award. The Alberta Crowe Meritorious Service Award is presented to an individual or organization for outstanding long-term accomplishments in and for the sport of bowling. The award is named after Alberta E. Crowe, former president of the WIBC and member of the USBC Hall of Fame (Meritorious Service, ’82), and BPAA Hall of Fame (Lerner Award ’80).

Jason Belmonte receives the IBMA Bowler of the Year Award & BPAA Media Award

Three-time PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte took home two awards from the BPAA Industry Service Awards Luncheon being held at the Mandalay Bay on June 28, 2016. He was awarded the BPAA Media Award and the IBMA Bowlers of the Year.

Lynda Barnes receives the Dick Weber Bowling Ambassador Award

PWBA and Team USA standout Lynda Barnes (center with Tom Martino, BPAA President, right, and Frank DeSocio, BPAA Executive Director) of Double Oak, Texas, was recognized with the Dick Weber Bowling Ambassador Award, named after the legendary bowling icon, recognizing her many contributions to the game and sport of bowling, both on and off the lanes.

Robin Romeo receives the IBMA Senior Bowler of the Year Award

Robin Romeo received the IBMA Senior Bowlers of the Year Award at the BPAA Industry Service Awards Luncheon being held at the Mandalay Bay on June 28, 2016. Romeo distinguished herself by capturing the USBC Senior Queens title on a difficult lane condition.

Jim Goodwin selected for IBMA Luby Hall of Fame Award

Veteran bowling writer Jim Goodwin (pictured with Keith Hamilton, right, President of the International Bowling Media Association) was selected for the IBMA Luby Hall of Fame award. The Luby Hall of Fame Award is given to an individual (living or deceased) who has made a distinguished contribution to bowling in print, broadcast, telecast or photographic coverage over a period of at least ten years. The Luby Hall of Fame Award, named after Dave, Mort Sr, and Mort Jr. Luby. Dave Luby founded Bowler’s Journal in 1913.

Reggie Frederick receives awarded the Ruben A. Dankoff Award

Reggie Frederick of Seattle, Washington (center, with BPAA Secretary Randy Thompson, left, and Frank DeSocio, BPAA Executive Director), was recognized with the Ruben A. Dankoff Award for Public Policy and Legislative Service for his countless hours of work on behalf of the business sector in Tacoma regarding the minimum wage issue. Awarded to an individual or organization who provides outstanding voluntary service on the federal, state or local government level in the development of legislation, public policy initiatives or other political efforts which benefit BPAA members or the industry as a whole, Frederick has been an invaluable lobbyist for proprietors in the State of Washington.

Greater San Antonio USBC selected for BPAA USBC Association Award

The Greater San Antonio USBC Association (official with Tom Martino, BPAA President, right, and Frank DeSocio, BPAA Executive Director) was recognized at the USBC Convention and at Bowl Expo with the BPAA USBC Association Award which is presented to a local USBC association who has demonstrated a high degree of cooperation with their local BPAA proprietor group. The relationship between BPAA and local USBC associations is critical since local associations represent the ‘consumer’ and BPAA member centers are the ‘playing fields’ for bowling. The BPAA appreciates the local USBC associations which work well with member centers and acknowledges exemplary relationships.

BPAA Proprietor of the Year Award goes to Jim Chambers

BPAA has honored Jim Chambers (center with Tom Martino, BPAA President, right, and Frank DeSocio, BPAA Executive Director) of Cloverleaf Family Bowl in Fremont Calif., with the BPAA Proprietor of the Year Award. He enjoyed complimentary airfare, accommodations at the host hotel and complimentary registration to the convention for himself and a guest. Chambers was also featured on the cover of BCM magazine and his home center will receive complimentary dues for 2017.

BPAA Special Projects Award being awarded to the State of Wisconsin

The State of Wisconsin (representatives flanked by BPAA President Elect Nancy Schenk, left, and Frank DeSocio, BPAA Executive Director, right) was recognized with the Special Projects Award for their aggressive membership campaign. They led the nation in membership development of new BPAA member centers and strategically made it their key priority. The partnership involved state board members, officers, their executive director and staff. This award is presented to an individual or individuals to recognize their efforts and contributions on a particular special project.
