Days winding down at 2016 USBC Open Championships

The 2016 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships has entered its final week at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada. The 113th edition of the event kicked off its 129-day run March 5 and will welcome 8,063 teams to The Biggest Little City in the World.

The last team squad of this year’s tournament is scheduled for July 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern, while the last doubles and singles squad is set to hit the lanes July 11 at 4 p.m. EDT.

A look ahead

Registration already is open for the 2017 USBC Open Championships, which will make its debut at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.

Along with the excitement of the spectacular venue, the tournament will have its own new look with the addition of a third division – the Standard Division – for bowlers with entering averages of 181-209.

The Regular Division now will be for bowlers with averages of 210 and above, while the Classified Division remains for bowlers who have averages of 180 and below.

The changes were initiated to help bowlers compete against those closer to their own skill levels. Click here for complete details.

For those not yet entered for the 2017 Open Championships, there’s an ongoing opportunity called the Ultimate Strike Sweepstakes, which gets captains who enter during the specific time period eligible for great prizes.

The first round of the sweepstakes is underway, and captains who sign up by July 10 can win free room nights at South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa.

Captains who already have registered for the 2017 tournament also can enter to win the sweepstakes. Details can be found in the Ultimate Strike rules. For more information and rules, click here.
