Yousif Falah starts GCC Championships with victory in Singles

Yousif Falah of Bahrain averaged 226.50 to kick off the 14th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Men’s Bowling Championships with victory in Singles Sunday at International Bowling Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Falah started his six-game series with a near-perfect 299 game, followed with back-to-back 202 games, for 703 to trail Naif Oqab of the United Arab Emirates after three games by 38 pins. With games of 208 and 225, Falah narrowed the gap to 19 and then six pins, before he closed with 223 to win the gold medal with 1359 total.

Oqab, who led the 36-player field with 741 (236, 255 and 250), finished with 189, and back-to-back 212 to fall five pins short to earn the silver medal with 1354 and an average of 225.67.

Heading into the last game Yaqoob Al Shatti of Kuwait was in sixth place but a 246 closing game propelled him into third place to take the bronze medal with 1339 (223.17).

Ghanim Aboujassom of Qatar and UAE’s Shaker Al Hassan finished in fourth and fifth place with 1313 and 1311, respectively.

2016GCCLogoThe 14th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Men’s Bowling Championship will be held from September 2-9 at the International Bowling Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Championship drew 36 players, six players each from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the host country United Arab Emirates, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in six disciplines, singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and masters.
