Norway sets the tone in the first squad of the team event

SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Thailand (August 21-31, 2008)

2008MWCTeamNorway_small.jpg Team Norway (pictured left with coach Mats Karlsson) led the first squad of the five-player team event in the Men's World Championships 2008 Tuesday morning at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Bangkok, Thailand. Per Kristian Eide, Glenn Morten Pedersen, Tore Torgersen, Mads Sandbækken and Petter Hansen posted a 3198 3-game total, an average of 213.20, on the 43-feet long oil pattern what must be one of the toughest patterns ever in the 54-year history of WTBA World Championships. Finland is second, with England in third while United States and Korea are tied for fourth.

Korea beats Japan to win the gold medal in Trios at Men's World Championships

Both U.S. Trios eliminated in the semifinals

2008MWCTriosSilverJapan_small.jpg 2008MWCTriosGoldKorea_small.jpg L-R Choi Bok-Eum, Kim Tae-Young and Choi Ki-Bong from Korea, seeded first defeated No. 3 seed Japan with Toshihiko Takahashi, Tomokatsu Yamashita and Shota Kawazoe (right) in a one-game match, 723 -553, to earn the gold medal in the Trios competition in the Men's World Championships at SF Strike Bowl Ngamwongwan in Nonthaburi, Bangkok, Thailand. In the biggest upset of this championships thus far, both trios from the United States were eliminated in the semi-finals. Japan received silver and the Team USA trios shared the bronze medal.

Choi Bok-Eum, Choi Ki-Bong and Kim Tae-Young (left) had a 2109 series today for 3833 pinfall total and an average of 212.94. The two trios from the United States sit in second and third place with 3826 and 3787, resp.  A strong finish by Norway propelled Mads Sandbækken, Petter Hansen and Tore Torgersen (right) to fourth place with 3780 (210.00).

United States set the pace in Squad 1/3 on the final day of Trios at Men's World Championships

2008MWCBillHoffmanPatrickAllenRhinoPage_small.jpg L-R Team USA members Bill Hoffman, Patrick Allen and Rhino Page set the pace in the Trios event at the Men's World Championships in Thailand as they overtook the lead in the Monday morning squad on the short oil pattern. Starting the day in 9th place among 109 trios from 57 countries and fourth in Squad 2, the Americans rolled games of 643, 672 and 706 to move past overnight leader England, Philippines and Japan with 3826 six-game total and an average of 212.56. Qatar is second with 3718, with Mexico third 1899 and overnight leader England fourth 3694.
