Team USA's Pluhowsky, Johnson take the lead in Doubles after the first Squad

Korea, Australia, Denmark round out the top 4 with two more squads to go

Defending Hwang Sun-Ok and her team mate Son Yun-Hee were 105 pins behind in second place with 2675. Aussies Lexi Nicoll and Narelle Baker were third with 2612 with Denmark's Sascha Wedel and Rikke Holm Agerbo in fourth with 2586. The top 4 doubles after the oreliminaries will advance to the finals.

Jacqueline Sijore starts 2011 Women's World Championships with victory in Singles

19-year-old Malaysian shoots 246, 266 to claim the gold medal

2011WWCTop4Singles_small.jpgJacqueline Sijore of Malaysia became the first world champion of the 2011 Women's World Championships in Hong Kong, China, when the 19-year-old rookie defeated 2009 World Champion (Team) Son Yun-Hee, Korea, 266-217, Sunday afternoon at Hong Kong Bowling City. In the semifinals, Sijore, seeded fourth, stunned No. 1 seed, Shayna Ng, Singapore, 246-214, while No. 2 Son survived a strong charge by No. 3 Mai Ginge Jensen, Denmark, 279-268.

Mai Ginge Jensen (r.) of Denmark was second in Squad 3 and tied Jacqueline Sijore, Malaysia, at 1486 to take the last spots for the finals.

Koivuniemi was the only player on either the men's or women's side among the top three in the rankings to compete in the Korean Daejeon International Open, the most recent event on the World Bowling Tour, presented by the World Tenpin Bowling Association.
