In a nerve-wracking men's title match, Goto survived a very low-scoring encounter against Márcio Martins, 147-143, to seal his victory. Suartz, the mother of Brazil's top bowler Marcelo Suartz, flew past Neuza Kae, 258-196.

England leads top 15 European men teams to the Combined World Championships 2013

Eight European countries will be represented by both teams, men and women, in Las Vegas

The 5th Men's European Championships in Vienna, Austria, served as the qualifying event for the 2013 WTBA World Championships. The combined championships for men and women will be held from Aug. 18-31 at Sunset Station's Strike Zone bowling center in Las Vegas. The 15 women teams have been decided in June at the 2012 Women's European Championships in Tilburg, Netherlands.  Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Poland and Sweden will be represented by both teams.

United States (host), Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica qualify for the 2013 WTBA Combined World Championships

Pluhowsky, the reigning World Champion in Masters, defeated teammate Liz Johnson, 238-226, to win the women's title, while Lambert fired a perfect game in defeating Puerto Rico's Francisco Colon, 300-175, at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center in suburban Las Vegas.

With total prize fund of 30.6 million Japanese Yen or approximately USD375,000, the tournament easily fulfils WTBA's requirement for a "WBT Major". The eight qualifying squads for international bowlers and the main event will be held from Jan. 15-19 at Inazawa Grand Bowl, the biggest bowling center in the world on one floor.

All players, men and women, bowled 18 games of qualifying over three days to determine the top 8 men and top 8 women for the single-elimination finals.
