Chris Batson.jpg Australian Chris Batson will head home on July 25, leaving behind a big question mark over his premature exit as the national bowling coach. Batson summed up his stay in Malaysia. "Ideals and reality are so far apart here." He was not the first to feel that way. Many foreign coaches have come to Malaysia with grand ideas and plans only to be mired in controversy before leaving in acrimony.

Kin Ngoh back in training, eyes Asiad squad spot

This is the third time that the left-handed Kin Ngoh has been invited to represent Malaysia again after she quit the national team early last year and migrated to Hong Kong.

Lin Yi Chien, Chinese Taipei, defeated Wang Ying Jun, China, 389-346, to win the Men's Masters title in the 21st East Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship at Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl in Hong Kong, China. On the women's side, Kim Yang-Hee topped Ka Yun-Mi, both of Korea, 385-363, in the title match.

Shalin Zulkifli and Surasak Manuwong win ABF Tour Philippine leg

Shalin Zulkifli.jpg Shalin Zulkifli (pictured) of Malaysia extended her winning streak when she captured her second Asian Bowling Federation Tour title this year with a 188-155 victory over Philippine Open champion Kang Hyun Jin of Korea. Surasak Manuwong defeated local favourite Chester King in the men's final, 212-157, to win the first 2006 ABFT event for Thailand.

The top 16 Asian men of the Bahrain Open Championships advanced to the Asian Bowling Federation Tour stop. Winner Tim Mack, United States, was not eligible to participate.

It is now up to the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) to name their best bowlers for the Doha Asiad (Dec 1-15) and Shalin certainly deserves to be considered for selection. The AsiaComm chief, Damien Kelly, said: "We certainly evaluate every athlete and ensure that only the best represents the country in Doha."

In a match between two two-handers, Belmonte topped Osku Palermaa, Finland, 238-233. Zulkifli won her third consecutive international title in ten days and the second championship match against team mate Esther Cheah with a 222-184 victory.

In the Girls Division, Rachelle Flynn came back from a 2-0 deficit narrowly taking the title with a 197-193 in the decider.

In the men's finals, No. 1 seeded Larpapharat made quick work of Kritchawat Jampakhao, 202-194. Zulkifli, the No. 2 seed, beat defending champion Esther Cheah in the deciding contest, 241-208.
