Koreans Hwang/Gang win the Doubles World Championship with flying colors

In the title match against Carol Gianotti and Ann Maree Putney (right), Australia, the Koreans pulled away early and never looked back to cruise to victory, 458-360. Anne Gales and Rikke Rasmussen, Denmark, and Son Yun-Hee and Hong Su-Yeon, Korea, shared the bronze medal.

Koreans dominate Doubles preliminaries at Women's World Championships

2009WWCSonYunHeeHongSuYeon_small.jpg2009HwangSunOkGangHyeEun_small.jpgHong Su-Yeon and Son Yun-Hee from Korea finished the third and last squad in the Doubles preliminaries with a 454 game to beat out their compatriots Gang Hye-Eun and Hwang Sun-Ok (right, l-r) for the lead by three pins en route to earn the No. 1 seed for the finals in the Women's World Championships on Thursday. Hong/Son No. 4 Hong/Son meet No. 4 Carol Gianotti and Ann Maree Putney, Australia, and Gang/Hwang take on No. 3 Anne Gales and Rikke Rasmussen, Denmark in the semifinals starting at 7pm.

Philippine duo moves into third place in Doubles preliminaries in Squad 2

2009WWCLizaDelRosarioLizaClutario_small.jpgLiza Clutario and Liza Del Rosario (r-l) from the Philippines were the sole team from Squad 2 who cracked the top 4 in the Doubles preliminaries at the 2009 Women's World Championships in Las Vegas.The duoled the squad en route to move into third place overall with 2549 total and an average of 212.42. Gang Hye Eun and Hwang Sun Ok from Korea and Anne Gales and Rikke Rasmussen, Denmark, remained in first and second place with 2613 and 2608, resp.. England's Jo Cundy and Hayley White fell one spot to fourth place and is now the team on the bubble with 2548.

The duo rolled six games between 408 and 490 to finish the six-game block on the medium pattern with 2613 pinfall total and an average of 217.75. Wednesday's action at the 2009 Women's World Championships shifts to Doubles event

2009OpeningCeremonies2_small.jpgOn the second day of competition the action shifts to the Doubles event in the 2009 Women's World Championships at Cahman Center in Las Vegas. The schedule is similar to the Singles event on Tuesday. All teams will bowl one six-game block on the medium oil pattern (Athens). The top 4 duos at the end of the day will advance to the stepladder finals on Thursday, July 30, 2009 starting right after the Singles finals at 7.00pm.
