Hong Kong Sports Institute added to WTBA-USBC scoring study

20081009HKSILogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association's study on factors that influence scoring in the sport will now be joined by the Hong Kong Sports Institute in addition to the United States Bowling Congress. The study is being conducted to determine new lines of specifications at the sport of bowling's elite level. WTBA, USBC and the Hong Kong Sports Institute will work jointly on the project and make recommendations to the WTBA Congress. A status report will be given on all items in August 2013.

The WTBA John Davis Memorial Award will recognize individuals who have selflessly devoted their time and resources to the sport of bowling over a significant period of time.

2013JohnDavisCelebrationofLife_small.jpg With the news of Kegel founder and CEO John Davis' death spreading quickly through the bowling community, people all across the sport shared memories of the legendary lane maintenance guru and offered their condolences. John Davis, the founder of the Kegel Company, was an industry icon, a visionary and pioneer in the creation of bowling products and services that promote fair competition on a consistent playing field. He passed away on Friday morning January 25. He was 64.

It is with great sadness that Kegel has announced that its founder and CEO, John M. Davis passed away at the age of 64 this morning at his home in Winter Haven, Florida. John was a very generous and compassionate man, who absolutely loved the sport of bowling. John leaves behind a legacy that will impact the sport of bowling and those who knew him forever. He will be sadly missed by his mother, wife, four brothers, three children, and six grandchildren, along with his extended family at Kegel and throughout the bowling industry.

World Tenpin Bowling Association partners with USBC to study new specifications

In an effort to determine new lines of specifications at the sport of bowling's elite level, the United States Bowling Congress will join with the World Tenpin Bowling Association to look at factors that influence scoring. A background study and hypothesis testing will begin immediately, with lab and field testing beginning next year.

2009LaRazaEduardoMerchandet_small.jpgWith deep sorrow Jose Guandique, President of the Pan American Bowling Confederation, has informed all member federations and associations of PABCON as well as all member countries of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs and World Tenpin Bowling Association, that Eduardo Marchandet B (pictured)., President of the Venezuelan Bowling Federation (Federacion Venezolana de Bowling) passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in Venezuela at the age of 75.

WTBA appoints TSE Consulting to drive international recognition

World Tenpin Bowling Association Executive Board meeting and decisions

The Executive Board made decisions on Betting, Tie Rules in World Championships, Entry Fee in World Championships, Athlete Vote, Lane Mapping and World Senior Championships (WSrC) - some of them By-Laws with specific dates to be effective.

Abu Dhabi to host WTBA World Championships for Men in 2014 and for Women in 2015

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, will host the 2014 WTBA World Men's Championships and the 2015 WTBA World Women's Championships, the WTBA announced Wednesday. The UAE last hosted the WTBA World Championships in 1999, which also took place in Abu Dhabi. The 2014 and 2015 events will take place in late August or early September each year at the Khalifa International Bowling Center. The hosts of the events will be Zayed Sports City and the Bid Committee of Abu Dhabi.

WTBA awards 2014 World Youth Championships to Hong Kong; 2016 to United States

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgThe World Tenpin Bowling Association has announced the 2014 WTBA World Youth Championship will be contested in Hong Kong, while Lincoln, Neb., in the United States will host the 2016 event. The WTBA Executive Committee announced the selections at its meeting alongside the 2012 World Youth Championships this week in Bangkok, Thailand. The 2014 event is slated to take place in the first half of August 2014 while the 2016 event will be held in July.

PBA, World Tenpin Bowling Association unveil International Tour

For first time in bowling history, players will compete for PBA titles on first true global professional bowling tour

The alliance will allow international and domestic PBA members who compete in World Bowling Tour events to earn PBA Tour titles in WBT events and to bowl in PBA Tour events in the United States.

World Tenpin Bowling Championships best in generating tourism value

2011WTBALogo_small.jpgA recent study by TSE Consulting has shown that the World Bowling Championships is capable of generating one of the highest return of investment in tourism value for a host city organizing a World Championship event. On average the event generates one of the highest return in tourism income compared to other World Championship events. The only sport that eclipsed Bowling in this respect was Triathlon according to a study that was conducted on a selection of World Championship events for a leading sports city.

World Tenpin Bowling Association holds its first WTBA / Special Olympics event

In conjunction with the WTBA International Open at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev., the World Tenpin Bowling Association, tenpin bowling's governing body, held its first WTBA / Special Olympics event on Monday afternoon, Jan. 30. The event, which is part of the WTBA agreement with Special Olympics, featured PBA stars Mika Koivuniemi and Sean Rash and eight Nevada Special Olympic athletes. WTBA President Kevin Dornberger emceed the event.

Hong Kong's Vivien Lau appointed FIQ Secretary General

Following the reorganization of the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) at the recent congress in Hong Kong, newly elected FIQ President, Kevin Dornberger, has appointed Ms Vivien Lau (pictured) as the FIQ secretary general. Ms Lau, who was recently awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) for her contributions in the development of tenpin bowling both locally and internationally and for sports in Hong Kong, was elected chairman of the Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress in 1986, a position she currently holds.

The reorganization streamlines the governance of international bowling by FIQ, which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the sport's world governing body. WTBA President Kevin Dornberger (pictured) was elected as the new president of FIQ for a four-year term.

WTBA Congress re-elects Kevin Dornberger president

Kevin Dornberger of the United States was re-elected president of the World Tenpin Bowling Association Monday for a second four-year term by the WTBA Congress. The election was one of several major announcements and decisions made by representatives of 90 bowling federations in Hong Kong, China. In addition to the presidential election, it was announced that Brunswick would offer $50,000 in matching funds to the WTBA for worldwide youth development. The first WTBA World Singles Championships will be held in Cyprus in 2012.

WTBA signs proclamation of mutual support with Special Olympics

The agreement includes a Special Olympics event to be held in conjunction with the 2011 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Women's Championships in late August in Hong Kong. In addition, the proclamation sets the stage for helping recruit coaches to train Special Olympics athletes.

WTBA to hold Symposium on Anti-Doping and Sport Science Support in Hong Kong

2011WTBALogo_small.jpg The World Tenpin Bowling Association has informed its member federations that WTBA will be conducting a Symposium on Anti-Doping and Sport Science Support during the 2011 Women's World Championships in Hong Kong. This symposium is the first of a series of educational seminars for bowling athletes, coaches and officials and is free of charge for all participants. It will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. through 5.30 p.m. in the auditorium of E-Max Mall in Kowloon Bay.

The WTBA Congress will be held September 12 and 14, 2011 in Hong Kong with the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) Congress will be held on Sept. 13. Both events will follow immediately to the Women's World Championships.At the 2011 WTBA Congress, the WTBA Presidium will propose to install a Singles World Championship starting in 2012.
