Junior Team USA girls win gold in team event; Minna Mäkelä All Events champion

Central Lanes in Agana, Guam - July 28-August 8, 2004

 Olivia Sandham, Jennifer Petrick, Stephanie Nation and Anita Manns (from front left, clockwise) earned the gold medal in the girls Team event at the 8th WTBA World Youth Championships. The Junior Team USA members, who led the field after three games on long oil widened their lead to 209 pins on short oil to cruise to victory. Australia jumped from 13th to second place, while England leaped from 6th to third.

Mexicans Iliana Lomeli and Sandra Gongora win Girls Doubles

2004WYCGongoraLomeli_small.jpgMexicans Iliana Lomeli and Sandra Gongora (r-l) teamed to win the Girls Doubles event at the 8th World Youth Championships in Guam. Lomeli, who won the doubles title in the American Zone Youth Championships last month, and Gongora averaged 205,5 on the long-oil pattern at Central Lanes in Agana. Silver went to Team USA's Jennifer Petrick and Stephanie Nation, while Francys Alvarez and Olga Arandia from Venezuela captured bronze.

Kang Hyun-Jin wins first gold medal for Korea in Girls Singles

Central Lanes in Agana, Guam - July 28-August 8, 2004

Kang Hyun-Jin.jpg Korea's Kang Hyun-Jin (pictured) won the first gold medal in the girl's division at the 8th World Youth Championships in Guam. Kang had games of 219, 191, 214, 202, 224 and 192 for 1242, six-game total and an average of 207 en route to win the girls Singles competition. Silver and bronze went to Singapore's Tay Hui Yiang and Michelle Kwang.
