New format highlights 24th edition of Salute to Bowling

International Bowling Museum/Hall of Fame fund-raising event returns to International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas June 26, 2013

201IBMHOFLogo_small.jpgThanks to a new format and return to the industry's largest venue, the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame's major fund-raising event for 2013 could be the best ever. The 24th edition of Salute to Bowling will be held June 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Paris Hotel and Casino as part of International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas. It will feature a theme of "Go for the Gold" as it continues its goal to help fund IBMHOF operations.

International Bowling Museum/Hall of Fame satellite in Reno adds new pieces

When participants in the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Open and Women's Championships visit the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., they will notice many changes. While some affect the actual bowling area, others can be seen in the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame's satellite facility on the ground floor. They include a Hall of Fame kiosk, large artist rendering of a bowling ball and pin, and the return of the famous American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame plaques.

International Bowling Museum/Hall of Fame raises money at Bowl Expo in Reno

Also adds new board members ands re-elects leadership

201IBMHOFLogo_small.jpgThe International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame had another busy week at International Bowl Expo 2012, raising money and adding and electing leaders for the 2012-13 season. More than $18,000 was secured from a raffle and silent auction at this year's event in late June in Reno, Nev. The IBMHOF also added three new members to its Board of Trustees and had all of its leadership re-elected to new terms effective August 1.

Wisconsin bowlers Fritton, Kaul win inaugural Hall of Fame Xtravaganza

Fritton and Kaul accumulated a total of 980 points over the two day eight game event featuring a unique format to win the $5,000 top prize.

The Xtravaganza is a new annual bowling event designed for BPAA member centers across the globe to benefit the IBMHOF. Local champions will win paid vacations to the fabulous Red Rock Resort where they will compete in the finals for an additional $25,000 in prizes May 31 - June 3, 2012.

International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame Satellite Museum rolls into Reno

2012IBMHOFSatelliteReno2_small.jpgWith the grand opening of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame's first satellite museum at the National Bowling Stadium, more than 5,000 years of bowling history has rolled into Reno. The IBMHOF teamed up with the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority to bring this exhibit to The Biggest Little City in the World. The new museum is an extension of the IBMHOF, which is located at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas.

Krol's big bid on Luby painting helps Salute to Bowling raise nearly $30,000

20111209JoeThumPaiting_small.jpgThanks to the work of one artist and the generosity of one bidder, the 2012 Salute to Bowling proved most fruitful to the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. The 23rd Salute was held Jan. 23 during the 2012 BPAA Bowling Summit at the Meritage Resort in Napa Valley, Calif. It featured free admission courtesy of joint presenters Brunswick and Qubica/AMF, a wine and cheese party, cocktails and beverage, 50/50 raffle and silent and live auctions of items donated for the event. Overall, the evening raised nearly $30,000 for the IBMHOF.

Mort Luby Jr. donates Joe Thum painting as auction item for Salute to Bowling

20111209JoeThumPaiting_small.jpgA large (30" x 40") oil painting of bowling pioneer Joe Thum will be the star attraction at the Salute to Bowling at the 2012 Bowling Summit next month in Napa Valley, Calif. Created by Bowlers Journal International publisher emeritus Mort Luby Jr., the artwork will be featured in the collection of sports memorabilia to be auctioned at the fundraiser for the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. Why Joe Thum? "I've always felt that Thum is one of bowling's unsung heroes," says Luby. "He really planted the seeds for bowling's worldwide growth."

50 Years of Women's Pro Bowling Exhibit completes IBMHOF

2011IBMHOFWomensProExhibit_small.jpgAs they walked through the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame during its grand opening in Arlington, Texas, in early 2010, Jim Goodwin, John Sommer, and a few others immediately noticed that something important was missing. It didn't take long to figure it out. There was nothing there to honor the long legacy of professional women bowlers. On June 29, 2011 as part of The Night at the Campus event during International Bowl Expo, 50 Years of Women's Pro Bowling was unveiled to the world.

International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame raised more than $61,000 during Bowl Expo

201IBMHOFLogo_small.jpgThe week-long events held during International Bowl Expo in Grapevine and Arlington, Texas, raised more than $61,000 for the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. Daily silent auctions at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine started the week while two benefits that were part of the June 29 Night at the Campus in Arlington helped cap things off in grand style. "The amount we raised was great considering we did not have our big Salute to Bowling event this year," said IBM/HF President and Chairman of the Board Keith Hamilton.

Hamilton elected chairman of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame

201IBMHOFLogo_small.jpgKeith Hamilton, President of Luby Publishing, Inc, has been elected Chairman and President of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, replacing Pat Ciniello who served as chairman since 2007. Ciniello remains on the board. Hamilton was Vice President under Ciniello and played a key role in the creation of the new museum and hall of fame. John Walker, President of QubicaAMF, has been named the vice chairman of the museum. The other members of the executive committee remain unchanged.

North Texans find coming to Bowling Museum/Hall of Fame with a group very educational

20110204IBMHFwithsnowandice_small.jpgWhile the first year of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBM/HF) attracted individuals, friends and families from around the world, a good number of North Texans visited the facility in groups. Through the efforts of Group Tour Coordinator/Gift Shop Manager Anna Murphy and International Bowling Campus Director of Corporate Events and Sales Derrick Rippatoe, an increasing number of school, youth, religious and senior groups have made their way to the IBM/HF.

Called "50 Years of Women's Professional Bowling," the exhibit is expected to open in June during International Bowl Expo and United States Bowling Congress Convention. It will feature the players of the Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour and Professional Women's Bowling Association.

Kelli Briscoe joins International Bowling Museum/Hall of Fame as curator

IBMHOFLogo2_small.jpgKelli Briscoe, an avid historian with extensive museum and journalistic skills, is the new curator of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBM/HF). Briscoe, who in May earned a Master of Arts degree in ancient/medieval history from Southern Methodist University, started in her new position Oct. 18. Among Briscoe's goals are to centralize the IBM/HF's artifacts, create temporary exhibits and help promote the facility to families and youth both in and out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
