BPAA announces 2011 Mid-Winter Summit moving to Red Rock Resort, Las Vegas

In support of industry efforts, summit's scope expands beyond previous years

2010BPAALogo_small.jpgThe Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) has announced the 2011 Mid-Winter Bowling Summit was moving to the Red Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The move provides an opportunity for proprietors, manufacturers, suppliers and even pro bowlers to participate in industry events. For 2011, conference attendees can also attend major PBA events on the same property - the PBA Tournament of Champions and the PBA Hall of Fame dinner on January 22nd.

Bill Supper returning to International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association

Bowling Industry Veteran to put on familiar hat as Managing Director

BillSupperIBMHoF_small.jpgBowling industry veteran Bill Supper (left) has been named Managing Director of the International Bowling Pro Shops and Instructors Association (IBPSIA), according to the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA).Supper, a 30-year veteran of the bowling industry and a former PBA member, retired as Executive Director of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBM/HF) in June, 2010, and is currently Executive Director of the Bowling and Billiards Institute of America. He will continue in that position with his new duties.

Heather Sharp and Marshall Kent score top scholarships

Win $15,000 in North Pointe Insurance High School Open Singles Championships

2010NorthPointeHSC_small.jpgMarshall Kent, Yakima, WA, and Heather Sharp Jacksonville, Fla., survived a competitive two days of bowling to win their respective male and female divisions in the 5th North Pointe Insurance $100,000 High School Open Singles (Bowling) Championship. The teens were among the largest field ever entered at the annual event according to the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA). Kent and Sharp each won $15,000 in scholarship money to cap the three-day scratch competition held July 17-19, 2010, at Hindel Bowl, Indianapolis, IN.

Families that bowl together earn scholarship money

Bowl for thousands at International Family Tournament in Euless, Texas

2010IFTLogo_small.jpg Some 60 teams representing 25 states and Canada are expected to descend upon North Texas July 29-31, 2010, to bowl for $70,000 in scholarship money at the 35th annual International Family Tournament (IFT) according to the BPAA. The IFT is an annual parent-student scholarship tournament sponsored by Georgia Coffee and presented by QubicaAMF and is the only sporting event in the United States in which parents participate with youth and teens for an international championship and scholarship funds.

BPAA helps to rev up funding for International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame

Donates priceless custom designed, one-of-a-kind "Strike Bike" to be auctioned at IBE

The one-of-a-kind bowling-themed bike debuted on The Learning Channel's August 7, 2008 realty show "American Chopper" and was custom designed by the legendary Teutul family. The bike will be open for public auction at the upcoming International Bowl Expo's "Salute to Bowling" cocktail event.

BPAA reports significant growth year for industry in 2010

Industry sees 4.6% increase in consumer participation with nearly 70 million having bowled in 2009

Fueled by increased interest from women and younger bowlers and the rising popularity of entertainment bowling centers, the industry recorded its fourth consecutive year of growth highlighted by a 4.6% increase in consumer participation with nearly 70 million having bowled in 2009 alone.

As BPAA continues to redefine its strategic priorities, Murphy will assume responsibilities of managing existing programs and developing new proprietor-driven initiatives aimed at growing the sport among young bowlers. Murphy comes to BPAA from Ebonite International in Hopkinsville, Ky., where he served as the Columbia 300 brand manager since 2007.

Sturm named to Bowlers to Veterans Link Board of Directors

BPAAPresidentJimSturm_small.jpgProprietors' Association of America President Jim Sturm (pictured) has been named to the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) board of directors by president-elect John Snyder. The appointment is the first assignment by Snyder who is beginning to set his committees prior to becoming BPAA president at Bowl Expo in June 2010. Sturm, in his second one-year term as BPAA president, joins the BVL board effective November 22, 2009.

East Coast Bowling Centers Convention wins in Atlantic

2008BPAALogo.jpgThe East Coast Bowling Centers Convention (ECBCC) once again showed why it is the premiere regional trade show in the bowling industry. With an uncertain economy facing them, bowling center owners, managers and industry professionals gathered at Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal November 1-4. BPAA executive director Steve Johnson made the surprise announcement that BPAA had booked former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin as Keynote speaker for the 2010 International Bowl Expo.

The Bowling Foundation votes to dissolve board

New Directors will seek to redefine The Foundation's Mission and Vision.

TBF's executive director Troy Greisen stepped down immediately following the vote. Program coordinator The decision was reached after hours of discussion that focused on how best The Bowling Foundation can serve the bowling industry in light of the current economy. The decision will not affect the Flowers For The Living Award presented annually at Bowl Expo.

$100,000 North Pointe High School Singles Tournament returns to Indianapolis

2008BPAALogo.jpgThe North Pointe Insurance Group $100,000 High School Singles Tournament will return to Indianapolis in 2010 with Hindel Bowl to play host July 17-19. Entering its fifth year, the tournament is open to bowlers who are high school students during the 2009-2010 school year. Participants must be a United States Bowling Congress certified youth bowler. Last year Christopher Via of Springfield, Ohio, captured the boys' title while Pauline Harris of Winter Park, Fla., won the title in the girls' division.

World record for most games recorded in a single day shattered

741,821 Games played in 24 hours as part of nationwide challenge

On National Bowling Day (September 5, 2009), more than 1,000 bowling centers across the nation joined forces to record 741,821 games - surpassing the existing record of 548,721 games, an increase of over 35%.

Main Event Entertainment in Grapevine to host international bowling tournament

2008BPAALogo.jpgMain Event Entertainment, the leading family entertainment center in Texas is set to host the 34th annual QubicaAMF International Family Tournament (IFT) Friday and Saturday, July 31 – August 1 in Grapevine, according to the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA). Some 70 teams from 27 states, as well as Canada, will converge on North Texas to compete in the Parent/Youth (35 teams) and Parent/Teen (35 teams) divisions.
