USBC Hall of Fame adds new 'Outstanding USBC Performance' category

2011HoFOutstandingUSBCPerformanceCategory_small.jpgTo recognize top performers in United States Bowling Congress competitions, USBC will have a new Hall of Fame category starting in 2011. The Outstanding USBC Performance category will recognize efforts by bowlers in USBC national events. This will cover performances of bowlers in tournaments such as the Open Championships, Women's Championships, Queens and Senior Queens, and Masters and Senior Masters.

Paeng Nepomuceno visits new International Bowling Campus

First coaching certification course at IBC to be held this weekend

20100219ITRCPaengNepomuceno3_small.jpgOne of the sport's most regarded international competitors and coaches, Paeng Nepomuceno (pictured), got a first-hand look at the International Bowling Campus on Thursday. Nepomuceno, a six-time world champion from the Philippines, has worked with the United States Bowling Congress Coaching program over the past three years to certify more than 300 coaches around the world. As part of his continuing education, he paid a visit to the new facilities in Arlington, Texas.

International Bowling Campus celebrates Grand Opening in Arlington

20100125IBCGrandOpeningAttendees_small.jpgUnder a clear blue sky and in front of an overflow audience, the International Bowling Campus officially became a reality Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, in Arlington, Texas. Grand Opening attendees listened to speakers from national and local elected officials to members of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau to national bowling leaders. They also watched a special time capsule be buried, took part in two ribbon cuttings and a ceremonial first ball roll.

Special museum exhibit to focus on The National Bowling Association

TNBAPresidentDrMichaelLBoykins_small.jpgAmong the most historically and culturally important exhibits in the new International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame will be one on The National Bowling Association. Located in a cove within the tournaments section of the Arlington, Texas, facility, the exhibit will not only tell the story of the TNBA but also show its more than 60-year history in pictures. "What's in this exhibit hits the mark," said Dr. Michael Boykins (pictured), TNBA's current president. "It will be an honor for TNBA to deliver this detailed information to the bowling world on such a prestigious stage."

Bowling Industry makes sports history with Grand Opening of International Bowling Campus

Industry unites under a single roof in Arlington, Texas complex

2009USBCInternationalBowlingCampus_small.jpgFor the first time in the 5,000-year history of the sport, the bowling industry will be united under one roof with the grand opening of the International Bowling Campus (IBC) in Arlington, Texas, an unprecedented event in sports history. The 100,000-plus square foot IBC complex will house more than 200 employees. At 2:30 pm on January 25, the campus will open its doors with a historic ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by a star-studded gathering of national and local celebrities.

SparePartz retail store will provide visitors a wide variety of apparel, collectibles and gifts

2009SparePartzRetailStore_small.jpgWhether people tour the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame or just visit the International Bowling Campus, they'll soon be able to stop by perhaps the most unique gift shop in the sport. SparePartz, a 900-square-foot retail outlet, will be located adjacent to the IBM/HF on the first floor of the building at 621 Six Flags Drive. Construction is moving at a feverish pace to have the shop open in advance of the Jan. 25 grand opening of the Campus.

Museum's Hall of Fame section will honor bowling's greatest through new technology

2009MuseumHallofFameSection_small.jpgThe people included in the Hall of Fame section of the new International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame will be part of something quite special. What took up a large amount of space in the IBM/HF's former home in St. Louis will be contained in one state-of-the-art exhibit. Instead of large portraits or plaques and a small amount of information about each person, 21st-century technology will incorporate Hall of Famers in one interactive exhibit with an abundance of facts and tidbits.

ITRC to stand as bowling's elite training ground for bowlers, coaches and pro shop professionals

All of those functions are of great importance, but one of the facility's most impressive distinctions is its status as bowling's elite training ground. That distinction will be made quite clear thanks to the Olympic rings, which will be proudly displayed on the side of the ITRC, setting it apart as the only bowling facility in the country to feature the rings.

Museum's Jack Reichert Center will help educate people of all ages about bowling

BrunswickCEOJackReichert_small.jpgLeaving the 'Bowling Reaches Out' section of the new International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, visitors will have a special place to learn all about the sport while honoring one of its true pioneers. The Jack Reichert Education and Learning Center will be where school children, high school and college students and historians of any age will quietly be able to discover the history of bowling through a variety of printed and visual research tools. Reichert was the longtime chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Brunswick Corporation.

Museum's 'Bowling Reaches Out' section honors special groups, people

2009BowlingReachesOutSection_small.jpgSome of bowling's most special organizations and competitors will be among the highlights of the final part of the modern era section at the new International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. Called Bowling Reaches Out, the section includes four areas: Bowling Charities, Everyone Can Bowl, Hometown Heroics and Route 66 mini-lanes. "You don't have to be a pro or physically fit. Anyone who wants the challenge can bowl", said Ross Edwards, design director for Dallas' Museum Arts and the lead designer for the IBM/HF.

Excitement of today's bowling highlights Museum's modern era section

The section starts with a quick display called "Growing Up a Professional" that will give an overview of the progression of a bowler from youth to pro. Entering the youth area, the most eye-catching feature will be the Bowlopolis-themed kiosk.

Museum Theater will transition visitors from historic to modern times

2009MuseumTheatre_small.jpgIn the middle of the new International Bowling Museum and Hall Fame is a visually-appealing section that will serve as an important transition in telling bowling's story. The Theater will help take patrons from the historical section they've just seen to the modern era they are about to visit. On a large projection screen and on walls on either side, the theater features narration, music, lighting, pictures, film, graphics and artifacts, plus two regulation 1930s lanes, to give people a true sense of both eras.

Museum's history section shows bowling from beginnings into 1900s

The history section now under construction at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, begins with the sport's ancient beginnings and carries through most of the 1900s. "People just going to the museum will learn something they haven't learned before," said Ross Edwards, lead designer for the IBM/HF.

City of Arlington helps to promote Campus to Visitors

2009BHoFSign_small.jpgWell before construction began for the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame and International Training and Research Center, the city of Arlington and the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau were making plans to tell visitors to their city about one of its newest future attractions. he idea was part of a master plan to showcase major attractions such as the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Six Flags Over Texas, each located in the same area of Arlington as the Campus.
