Barnes (l.), the No. 7 qualifier, needed a strike on his first ball in the final frame of the deciding game and got it to beat Jacob Kent of Robert Morris-Illinois, 3-2.
Nick Davis, Brittni Hamilton earn top seeds for single-elimination finals
North Carolina State's Nick Davis (r.) and Vanderbilt's Brittni Hamilton (l.) earned the top seeds Monday for the single-elimination match-play bracket at the 2011 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships. Davis fired a 12-game qualifying total of 2,712, an average of 226, while Hamilton led the women's field by a large margin, totaling 2,639, a 219.9 average, at AMF Euless Lanes in Texas. Competition resumes at 7:40 a.m. Central with the opening round of match play.

Forty of the nation's top collegiate bowlers will be at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas, starting Monday to compete for national titles at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championship. The participants will bowl 16 qualifying games on Monday to determine the single-elimination match-play bracket. On Tuesday, match play will consist of best-of-five games until a champion is determined. All qualifying and match-play rounds will be broadcast live on BOWL.com.
The field of 24 men and 16 women who will compete for individual national championships was determined Friday at four 2011 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships sectional qualifiers. The 2011 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships will take place May 23-24 at AMF Euless Lanes in Euless, Texas. Qualifying for the national finals was held in Allentown, Pa.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Peoria, Ill.; and Euless, Texas.
