WSU Lady Shockers win fourth consecutive title at McKendree Baker Challenge

201112WSUBowlingTeams2_small.jpgThe Wichita State women dominated the match-play portion of the McKendree Baker Challenge, earning them a fourth consecutive title and a fifth win for the season. This year the tournament took place in two locations – St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill., where the men competed and Bel-Air Bowl in Belleville, Ill., where the women competed. This was the eighth tournament of the season for the Shocker men and women.

Webber International Bowling announces new men's head coach

2011KegelKTCLogo_small.jpgKegel Training Center has announced that Del Warren, the current Vice President of the training center, will be the new Webber International men's head coach effective immediately. Warren is a USBC Gold level coach and has been the head of the Webber bowling program since its inception in 2008. Last season, the men finished as a finalist at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships and are currently ranked 7th in the power rankings.

Frahm leads Hawks get first tourney win of the year at Kutztown

UMES rallies to best top-seeded FDU twice on final day and win the title.

20120130KutztownZMES_small.jpgIn the largest NCAA women's bowling tournament in the country, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) rallied from a slow start to capture the crown and with it their first event win of the season. The Hawks used a masterful day three to beat No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) twice to take the title. In just her second tournament as head coach, Kristina Frahm, pushed UMES from a slow day one start to finish second and set up a title run on the final day.

Shockers set new record with 17 Academic All-Americans

Swede Marcus Berndt, Singapore's Jazreel Tan and Arianny Perrino of Venezuela among the student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50 or higher

201112WSUBowlingTeams2_small.jpgThe Wichita State men's and women's bowling teams have excelled both on the lanes and in the classroom this season. A record number 17 Academic All-Americans were named for the bowling program this season. This achievement is awarded by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50 or higher on all course work. The bowling program broke its previous record of 14, which was set last year.

Sharon Brummell to leave UMES athletics

Legendary coach and administrator to step down for a new position.

2011SharonBrummellLanes_small.jpgSharon Brummell (pictured), one of the most successful collegiate bowling coaches ever in the sport, is retiring from coaching and with it leaving her position as Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Brummell has tenured her resignation to become the Associate Athletics Director for Business and Finance and Senior Woman Administrator at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Wichita State men, women sweep Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational

201112WSUBowlingTeams2_small.jpgThe Wichita State men and women (pictured) both swept Webber International on Wednesday, Dec. 21, en route to victories at the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational, which is a major event on the USBC Collegiate schedule. The Wichita State men had little trouble disposing of Webber International in a 2-0 victory in the best-of-three match. The women's championship match was a carbon copy of the men's with Wichita State taking down Webber International, 2-0.

2012 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships moves to Nebraska with new format

USBCISCLogo2_small.jpgThe 2012 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships will have a new format and be held in conjunction with USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. The singles event will take place April 17; team competition begins April 19. The new one-day format will consist of six games of qualifying followed by head-to-head match play. The match-play portion will feature three-game total pinfall matches.

Wichita States University women's team wins first title of the season

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe Wichita States University Shocker bowling team competed in its first Tier I tournament of the season from Nov. 25-26. The women claimed their first title at the 34th National Collegiate Team Match Games while the men earned a respectable third place finish. With a new tournament director, National Collegiate Team Match Games found itself with an altered tournament format. In keeping with the tournament's long stating tradition, the tournament still adhered to the Barnhart Match Play system.

Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic expects record 130 varsity teams for 2012 event

Tournament sponsors continue to fund scholarship money for student-athletes

2011BackhaulDirectHoosierClassicLogo_small.jpgThe 43rd Annual Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic, presented by Columbia 300, is expecting a 130 team "sellout" based on a full field of 78 men's teams and 52 women's teams. All teams entered, in both divisions, represent the "varsity team" for each program. The tournament, held on February 18-19, 2012 at Western Bowl in Indianapolis, is the most sought-after regular season title of the collegiate season. The top 12 teams in the men's division and top eight teams in the women's division will advance to the bracket finals.

Reigning NCAA and USBC Intercollegiate Women's Team Champion, University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) opened their conference season in perfect style, rolling to a 10-0 mark over their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division opponents. The Hawks were paced by Anggie Ramirez (right; Bogota, Colombia) who tallied 943 pins over four games to average a 235.75.

Head Coach Sharon Brummell hopes that the addition of four new bowlers will help her Hawks acquire an unprecedented fourth National Championship in five years. The Hawhs open the 2011-12 season Nov. 4-6 at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational.

William Penn men, Robert Morris-Illinois women win ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic

The Statesmen (l.) defeated Lindenwood in the title match, 431-394, while the Illinois women topped Robert Morris-Peoria, 398-359.

Wichita State men start season with win at Mid States Championships

Shockers win seventh straight title and ninth out of the last ten years

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe Shocker bowling teams opened their season at the 52nd Mid States Championships held at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan. on October 15-16. The tournament format consisted of ten individual games and 16 baker games. A total of 17 men's teams and ten women's teams rounded out the varsity field. The Shocker men continued their dominance at Mid States winning a seventh straight title, bringing them to a ninth victory out of the last ten years of competing in the event.

UMES dedicates bowling lanes to coach Sharon Brummell

2011SharonBrummellLanes_small.jpgIn her 14th year as coach of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team, head coach Sharon Brummell has accomplished a lot. Three National Championships, five MEAC Championships, 20 All-America players, five MEAC Coach of the Year awards and two National Coach of the Year honors are just a few of the more glaring recognitions. On Friday, Oct. 21st the school publicly thanked her for her efforts when the bowling lanes were formally named the Sharon D. Brummell Bowling Lanes.

BOWL.com to provide Live Broadcasts of nine collegiate events in 2011-12 season

It will mark the third consecutive season that bowling fans will be able to watch regular-season college events on BOWL.com. The action kicks off Oct. 22 with a special event at the International Training and Research Center.

Leann Eimermann to head University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team

2011UWWLeannEimermann_small.jpgLeann Eimermann, a former Warhawk, has been named head women's bowling coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Eimermann was captain of the Warhawk team that earned a berth in the 2010 United States Bowling Congress national tournament. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration, with a major in marketing. She was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at UW-W. The UW-Whitewater women's bowling team will make its debut under Eimermann October 22-23 at the ISBPA/Kegel Classic in Addison, Illinois.

First Bowling Combine brings together athletes, coaches

While participants said they were able to learn more about their games, coaches attending the first Bowling Combine for College Prospects at the International Training and Research Center said they enjoyed the chance to evaluate many players in one location. More than 70 youth bowlers took part in the two-day program that concluded Thursday. They were put through tests that measured sport-specific skills and overall athleticism, including vertical leap and balance tests.

2011WeluScholarshipKristinaFrahm_small.jpg Kristina Frahm of Oswego, Ill., who helped the University of Maryland Eastern Shore win a pair of NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships and a USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships title as part of her four-year reign as a collegiate All-American, has been selected as winner of the Professional Bowler Association’s 2011 Billy Welu Scholarship. Frahm, who recently graduated from Maryland Eastern Shore with a 3.955 grade point average in earning her degree in accounting, is headed to Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md., this fall in pursuit of her MBA.

20110124GuinnessCertificateRecordForMostStrikesin1Minute_small.jpgOn Monday evening, Jan. 24th, 2011, three Webber International Unversity bowlers broke the Guinness World Record for Most Strikes in One Minute held by legendary Swedish bowler Tomas Leandersson (6) since 2001. Kristis Sergejevas of Lithuania and Brazilian national team member Marcelo Suartz managed seven strikes at Kegel Training Center in Lake Wales, Fla., before Floridian Colin Champion, a 117 lb. freshman, rolled eight strikes within one minute. The record was now officially approved by Guinness World Record Ltd.

Kristina Frahm named 2011 MEAC Woman of the Year

UMES bowler was a four-time All-American and the second Hawk to win the award

2011USWOKristinaFrahm_small.jpgThe Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced that the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Kristina Frahm (pictured) of Oswego, Ill. was named the 2011 MEAC Woman of the Year. Frahm will be awarded the honor during the annual MEAC Football Press Luncheon on Friday, July 29 in Norfolk, Virginia. The award, selected annually by the MEAC Senior Woman Administrators, celebrates the achievements of female senior student-athletes who have excelled in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
