Illinois team moves into third place at USBC Women's Championships

2007USBCWC_small.jpg Sally Lynn's career-best 662 series powered Rollin' Along of Mundelein, Ill., into third place in Division 1 team competition Saturday at the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships. "We're on top of the world," team captain Farruggia said. "We've never placed this high in any of the Women's Championships we've bowled in before. It pays off going and going each year and having the camaraderie we have. We came in thinking 'We can do it.'"

New Yorker celebrates 50th USBC Women's Championships

2007USBCWC_small.jpg Vi Bonomo's bowling career began in 1942 in a small six-lane center in upstate New York where she had to set her own pins. Sixty-five years later, the technology of bowling is a bit more advanced, but the 81-year-old Bonomo of Utica, N.Y., is still rolling strikes and converting spares, still smiling, laughing and high-fiving fellow bowlers. Bonomo's bowling career reached a grand milestone Sunday as she competed in her 50th United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships at AMF Carolina Lanes in Matthews, N.C.

Liz Johnson and Susan Jeziorski-Smith took the lead in Classic Doubles, combining for 1,385. Meanwhile, Tiffany Stanbrough moved into the Classic Singles lead with 745.

2007USBCWC_small.jpg Wendy Macpherson made her bid for a fifth United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships title by moving into the Classic All-Events lead with a 2,161 total Thursday at AMF Carolina Lanes in Matthews, N.C. Wendy Chai and Esther Cheah of Malaysia moved into the lead in Classic Doubles and Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., took the lead in Classic Singles.

Barrette's big series propels team into lead at USBC Women's Championships Leanne

Barrette shot an 804 series on games of 288, 248 and 268 at Northcross Lanes in Huntersville, N.C., to propel Ebonite Bowlers Map of Roseville, Calif. (pictured), into the Classic Team lead with 3,210.

2007USBCWC_small.jpg The first of more than 8,700 teams took the lanes Thursday as the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships began for the first time in the state of North Carolina. Over the next three months more than 43,000 bowlers from across the country will descend upon the suburban Charlotte, N.C., area to take part in the Women's Championships, which is the largest participatory sporting event for women in the world.

USBC travelers 'Fix it and forget it!' at 2006 Women's Championships

Travelers spend nearly four months out of every year away from home, family and friends at the USBC Women's Championships. Currently numbering 12 members, the travelers assume the countless day-to-day tasks behind the scenes to help make a tournament succeed. Without tournament registrars, record keepers and squad room facilitators, the Women's Championships would not happen.
