Wright, O'Grady win Junior Gold Championships

2006JuniorGoldOGradyWright_small.jpg Jennifer Wright of West Columbia, S.C., and Matthew O'Grady of South Amboy, N.J., were crowned U.S. Junior Amateur champions Friday at the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships. The championships featured nearly 1,450 of the top youth bowlers in the country competing for $80,000 in scholarships, individual titles and berths on Junior Team USA 2007.

Wright makes history at Junior Gold Championships

2006JuniorGoldKyleBischoffJenniferWright_small.jpg Jennifer Wright of West Columbia, S.C., fired 300, the highest individual game by a girl in the nine-year history of the USBC Junior Gold Championships as she took the lead after the semifinals Thursday. Wright's 30-game total of 6,136 puts her well in the lead heading into Friday's round-robin match play at Don Carter University Lanes. Kyle Bischoff of St. Cloud, Minn., leads on the boys' side with 6,389.

Mushtare doesn't advance at Junior Gold Championships

2006JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg Robert Mushtare, the only bowler in history to have two certified 900 series, did not advance to the semifinals Wednesday at the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships. The 17-year-old from Carthage, N.Y., finished the event tied for 282nd place with a 3,342 total for 18 games, an average of 185.7.

Mushtare has work to do at Junior Gold Championships

2006JGCRobertMushtare_small.jpg Heading into the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships, Robert Mushtare of Carthage, N.Y., had a simple goal. He wanted to average 200 for the tournament. After two days of qualifying, Mushtare, the only bowler in history to have two certified 900 series, has some work to do to reach his goal. For his first 12 games, Mushtare has totaled 2,234, an average of 186.2, and it tied for 280th place in a 992-player field.

Practice, hard work pay off for pair at USBC Junior Gold Championships

2006JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg Karen Grygiel's wake-up call came in St. Louis in 2003. It was then she realized the key to finding success at the United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships. Since then, Grygiel of Brick, N.J., has worked on her game and has challenged herself on USBC Sport Bowling lane conditions, both in practice and in competition. In the 2006 event's opening round of competition on Monday, she saw some results from that hard work.

Helmrich is ready to enjoy his return

2006JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg On Monday, 1,457 of the best junior bowlers will compete in the United States Bowling Congress' Junior Gold Championship that will be contested at University Lanes in Davie, Tamarac Lanes and Boca Raton Lanes. The contestants will be battling for eight male and eight female spots on Junior Team USA, which competes in tournaments around the world, and $80,000 in college scholarship money.

The 17-year-old Carthage, N.Y., bowler made history recently as the first bowler to record two certified perfect series. Mushtare will be among a field of 1,458 of the top junior bowlers in the country competing for $80,000 in scholarships and spots on Junior Team USA.

Changes will help meet demand for USBC Junior Gold Championships

2006JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg Due to increased demand, the United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships will undergo several changes for the 2007 event, including a new schedule that will allow for even more participants. Instead of having three consecutive days of qualifying, the three six-game blocks will be spread out over four days. The change allows for 1,728 participants in Buffalo versus 1,458 in Fort Lauderdale.

2006 USBC Junior Gold Championships to feature $25,000 in added Scholarship Funds

2006JuniorGoldLogo_small.jpg The United States Bowling Congress has announced that athletes competing in the 2006 USBC Junior Gold Championships will have the opportunity to compete for an additional $25,000 in scholarship funds July 8-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The amount of scholarship funds available has been raised from approximately $55,000 to $80,000 as a result of operational cost reductions, athlete sponsor support and increased athlete participation.

USBC Junior Gold Championships sells out in record time

USBCLogoRedsmall.jpg For the second time in the history of the event, the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships has sold out. All 1,458 spots have been sold for the Junior Gold Championships, which will be held July 8-14 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. It is the fastest sell-out in the nine-year history of the event and the first time it has sold out since 2003 in St. Louis.
