Westin, Sandbækken, Alexander Medveditskov, Russia, and Frode Jørgen Aaneby, Norway, advanced to the championship round featuring three one-game shoot-out matches.

The PBA champion remained unchallenged in the last four qualifying squads Saturday at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo and led a group of 40 players into Sunday's finals. Arvid Espen (r.) led Squad 15 with 1387, the highest series on Saturday, to move into seventh place. Jenny Wegner, Sweden, took the 36th and last place to advance with 1304.

2011EBT07OskuPalermaa_small.jpgThree-time European Bowling Tour ranking champion Osku Palermaa (l.) of Finland averaged almost 250 Friday afternoon at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo en route to shoot into the qualifying lead in the Linne Norwegian Open. The two-hander fired games of 222, 221, 257, 265, 242 and 289 in Squad 12 to lead the 136-player field from seven countries with 1496 pinfall total and an average of 249.33. Total six players cracked the top 10 in the three squads on Friday.With the last four squads to go on Saturday, Patcharin Torgersen holds the 36th and last spot to advance with 1273.

Norwegian national team member Heidi Thorstensen (l.) started the day with a 1310 series, an average of 218.33, to lead Squad 8 with 1358 including 48 pins women's handicap en route to leap into eighth place in the overall qualifying standings. Squad 6 leader Thomas Fagerstrøm (r.), Norway, held on to the lead with 1462 (243.67).

Fagerstrøm fired games of 255, 279, 223, 269, 199 and 237 to lead the field of 88 players with 1462 six-game total and an average of 243.67. Previous leader Mads Sandbækken (r.) slipped to second place with 1436. As the top two players after the first seven squads, Fagerstrøm and Sandbækken are automatically qualified for the finals.

Dominic Barrett wins his 5th career European Bowling Tour title in BNC Open

Defeats PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss in the title match

Reigning European Bowling Tour ranking champion Dominic Barrett, England, defeated PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss, United States (r-l), 484-465, over two games total pinfall to win the BNC Open Sunday at BNC Bowling Center in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was Barrett's fifth career EBT title and the first this season. Barrett earned 6.000 Euro while Voss pocketed 3.300 Euro for second place. The EBT moves to Norway for the Linne Norwegian Open which is already underway at Veitvet Bowling Center in Oslo.

Mads Sandbækken (l.) rolled a 1436 series in Squad 3 on Saturday to lead the field of 70 players with an average of 239.33. The Team Norway anchor had games of 202, 257, 195, 278, 236 and 268. His team mate Fredrik Tjernes (r.) had a pair of 279s in Squad 2 to sit in second place with 1415. Qualifying continues on Sunday, Aug. 21 with Squads 5-7.

The former world champion leads a field of 64 players into the finals on Sunday, Aug. 21. Thomas Larsen (r.), Denmark, posted the highest score on Saturday but fell just four pins short of the lead with 1395. The BNC Open is the 13th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and offers total prize fund of 42.000 Euro with 6.000 Euro going to the winner.

The former world champion (1999, doubles and team) started his six-game series with 187 but rebounded with 253, 203, 245, 232 and 279 to lead the field of 211 players from 23 countries with 1399 pinfall total. Qualifying ends on Saturday, Aug. 20 with Squads 21-24 and wraps off with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for 12.30 a.m. on Sunday morning..

Alvar Cardona (l.) held on to the lead with 1375 six-game total and an average of 229.17. The Catalonian holds a slim one-pin lead over Karl Wahlgren (r.), Sweden, who moved into second place behind a 1374 series in Squad 15. With 16 out of 24 qualifying squads completed, the cut for 48th and last place to advance to the finals is 1176 and an average of 196.

Catalonian Alvar Cardona moves to the top of the leaderboard in BNC Open

All four squad leaders from Wednesday's qualifying advance to the finals on Sunday, Aug. 21

Cardona had games of 245, 216, 250, 237, 212 and 215 and a total of 1375 to beat out previous leader Romeo Gagenoiu, Romania for the pole position by two pins. All four squad leaders on Wednesday led the separate standings from Wednesday's qualifying squads 9-12 and are automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Defending champion Thomas Gross (r.), Austria, who led Monday with 1359, slipped one spot to second place. Bogdan Dobondi, Sweden, moved into third place behind a 1299 series.

Gross started the tournament with 1288 in Squad 1 and improved his score by 71 pins in Squad 2 to lead the field of 84 players with 1359 six-game total and an average of 226.50. The top four players from the Monday's standings are automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday, Aug. 21.

After a one-month hiatus the 2011 European Bowling Tour will resume with the BNC Open in Bratislava, Slovakia. The tournament is the 13th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the fifth out of seven EBT "Silver" tournaments this season. The BNC Open 2011 will be held from Aug. 15-21, 2011 at 16-lane BNC Bowling Center and offers total prize fund of 42.000 Euro with 6.000 Euro going to the winner, 3.300 to the runner-up and 1.800 each to the third and fourth place finisher.

Martin Larsen comes from behind to win 33rd Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona

No. 3 seed defeats No 2. Robert and No. 1 Koivuniemi in stepladder finals to earn 12.000 Euro

Martin Larsen (pictured left) of Sweden, came from the No. 3 seed to claim the title in the 33rd Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona and to earn the 12.000 Euro top prize Sunday at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain. Larsen flew past his compatriot Robert Andersson in the semifinal, 245-192, and then topped PBA Player of the Year Mika Koivuniemi, who ked the tournament since the qualifying, in the title match, 203-146. Sixth place finisher Joline Persson-Planefors (right), Sweden, overtook the lead in the EBT women's ranking.

Dominic Barrett (r.), England, was one of four squad leaders on Saturday, who earned automatic spots into the finals on Sunday, July 17th.

Starting the day in 42nd place Koivuniemi, currently the No. 3 in the European Bowling Tour men's ranking, averaged 238.83 including games of 231, 269, 228, 204, 258 and 243 to lead the 167 players from 26 countries - 107 men and 60 women - into the final day of qualifying.

In an all-Malaysian affair, Alex Liew (pictured) defeated Adrian Ang, 465-428, over two games total pinfall, en route to win the title in the 7th Storm San Marino Open and the 10.000 Euro top prize Sunday afternoon at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino. Liew ousted Robert Andersson, Sweden, in the semifinals, 458-417, while Ang eliminated fellow country woman Esther Cheah in a high-scoring encounter, 499-489.
