Latest News: The stepladder finals will air on Eurosport 2 on Thursday, April 14 at 11.30 p.m. CEST (10.30 p.m. in the UK).

Reigning European Bowling Tour ranking champ Dominic Barrett, England, finished with 290 to grab the eighth and last spot to advance with 1237.

Top 16 players to meet top 12 qualifiers in second round

The Swede Led the round with 1308 pinfall total. Marilyn Planchard (r.), the back-up specialist of the host country France, had 296 scratch in game #3 to help grab second place with 1287. The top 16 will meet the top 12 qualifiers in round two to bowl six games scratch.

Jouni Helminen wins qualifying in 2011 Brunswick Euro Challenge

Cut for 52nd place is 1246 (207.50 average) 164 pins less than last year

Vincent Cayez (r.), France, led the 25th and final qualifying squad with 1301 and not only made the first cut but even moved into the top 12 to earn one bye for the finals on Sunday morning.

Dominic Barrett leads Squad 24 with 1275; improves by three pins to leap into 21st place

Barrett's compatriot Darren Cundy (r.) was mere seven pins behind to jump from 94th to 24th place with 1271. With the final qualifying squad to go, Swede Karl Wahlgren holds the 52nd and last spot to advance with 1242.

Osku Palermaa rolls first 300 game in 2011 Brunswick Euro Challenge

Final game propels PBA champion into ninth place; cut for 52nd place is currently 1240

Playing deep inside on lanes 9 and 10, the two-hander fired 12 powerful strikes for the tournament's first 300 game. Palermaa, who has won his first PBA titel this season, rocketed from 109th into ninth place in the overall qualifying standings with 1308 six-game total and an average of 218.

Jouni Helminen, Finland, remained unchallenged atop the field of 389 players from 37 countries with 1435 and an average of 239.17. Another three players in Squad 22 cracked the top 12, who will earn a bye for the finals, and six more stayed above the cut line (1236).

Just three players from the 238-player field from 22 countries have surpassed the 1300-mark this year including tournament leader Jouni Helminen, Finland, who held on to the lead lead with 1435. Qualifying continues on Thursday, March 10 with Squad 14 and 15 scheduled for 4 and 8 p.m. CET.

The French national team member, who posted a 1248 series on Monday leaped from eighth to third place after totaling 1268 in Squad 9. The top 8 after the first nine squads will automatically earn berths into Sunday's finals if they don't finish among the top 52 in the overall qualifying standings. Qualifying continues on Wednesday, March 9 with Squad 10 and 11.

Finn Jouni Helminen (l.) remained unchallenged during Sunday's qualifying squads 5, 6 and 7 and continued to lead the qualifying of the Brunswick Euro Challenge with 1435 six-game total and an average of 239.17. Helminen held a 163-pin lead over his nearest competitor, Olivier Braine (r.) of Belgium, who was second with 1272. Five players moved into the top ten during Sunday's qualifying Squads 5-7. Qualifying continues on Monday, March 7 with Squad 8.
