Malta's Tenpin Bowlers have once again proved their chosen sporting discipline is one of the precious few in which our sportsmen and women can seriously compete against world class competition from nations much greater, and with far more resources than our own. The Team representing Malta in last week's IX Mediterranean Challenge Cup not only scooped an impressive array of medals in all divisions, but they managed to win the entire event against teams from eight other Mediterranean countries.
Bowling Alley: Rose'n'Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino
Sue Abela from Malta and Vretos Pachoulis, Greece, finished the 9th Mediterranean Challenge Cup at Rose'n'Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino, with victory in All Events. Abela won her third gold medal in four events and her 19th in the nine-year history of the event with 216,33 average over 18 games. Abela has won eight out of nine All Events titles in the MCC. Pachoulis overtook Domenico Maddaloni, Italy, by six pins thanks to a fine 1361 performance in the Team event.
Greece captured the gold medal in the Team event at the Challenge Cup in San Marino. Natassa Rovithaki, Despina Chrysanthi, Vretos Pachoulis and Stavros Parasakis averaged 216,46 for six team games and felled 5195 pins. Malta with Sue Abela, Lorraine Casha, Brian Farrugia, Rankin Luke Camilleri finished 154 pins behind in second place. Bronze went to Turkey with Mine Karakullukcu, Ebru Ozogluuntur, Mithat Siveliol and Burak Natal.

Sue Abela of Malta earned her second gold medal in the 9th Mediterranean Challenge Cup in San Marino when she teamed with Lorraine Casha to win the women's Doubles with 2588 six-game total and an average of 215,67. On the men's side, Israel Tener and Johnatan Geller from Israel cruised to victory with 2715 and an average of 226,25. The doubles from Greece settled for the silver medals while the Italians took bronze in both division each.
Malta's Abela adds another MCC title to her impressive collection
Domenico Maddaloni of Italy powered his way to the gold medal in the men's Singles event at the 9th Mediterranean Challenge Cup in San Marino. Maddaloni fired games of 259, 226, 219, 254, 289 and 227 for 1474 six-game total and an average of 245,67. Sue Abela from Malta added yet another MCC title to her impressive collection when she won the women's Singles with 1348 and an average of 224,67. This was Abela's 17th gold medal in the 9-year history of the MCC.

Among the competitors is four-time defending women's All Events champion Sue Abela, Malta (pictured).
