Korean women and UAE men sweep gold medals in 3rd Asian Indoor Games

Conclude Games with victory in 4-player Team event

Korea's Jeon Eun-Hee, Gang Hye-Eun, Hwang Sun-Ok and Son Yun-Hee and Hussain Al-Suwaidi, Sayed Ibrahim, Shaker Al-Hassan and Naif Oqab, UAE, swept the gold medals in Singles, Doubles and Team in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. In the women's 4-player team title match the Koreans flew past Japan, 895-696, to win the third gold medal in as many events. In the men's title match, the Arabs defeated Malaysia, 829-788, to secure their third gold medal in the Games.

Korean women and Malaysian men lead in 4-player team event after Block 1

The women from Korea and the men from Malaysia set the pace as the 4-player team event of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games has reached the halfway point Thursday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. The Koreans felled 2593 pins, an average of 216.08, while the Malaysians totaled 2763 (230.25). The 12 women's teams and the 18 men's teams will return on Friday for the second 3-game block on short oil. The top 4 teams with the highest six-game total in each division will advance to the semifinals.

Son, Jeon capture the second gold medal for Korea in Women's Doubles in Vietnam

Asian Indoor Games Singles champion Son Yun-Hee teamed with Jeon Eun-Heeto win the second gold medal for Korea in the Women's Doubles event Wednesday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. Son/Jeon, both members of the Korean quintet which has won the gold medal in the 5-player team event at the Women's World Championships in Las Vegas this summer, defetaed Fatin Syazliana and Sin Li Jan, Malaysia, in the title match, 432-393.

Oqab, Al-Suwaidi win Men's Doubles gold by the closest possible margin

2009AIGLogo_small.jpgNaif Oqab and Hussain Al-Suwaidi earned the No. 1 seed for the Doubles finals in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games with a 46-28 win in roll off over Choi Bok-Eum and Kim Tae-Young. The Arabs met the Koreans once again in the title match and captured the gold medal with a 431-430 victory. Choi/Kim received the silver medal. Ryan Lalisang/Hengky Susanto, Indonesia, and Eric Tseng/Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, shared the bronze medal.

Korea's Son Yun-Hee wins Women's Singles from top seed at Asian Indoor Games

2009AIGLogo_small.jpgSon Yun-Hee won the first gold medal in the Asian Indoor Games bowling competition for Korea when she defeated Maki Sano, Japan, 193-158, to capture the title in Women's Singles Monday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. In the semifinals Son defeated No. 4 Tannya Roumimper, Indonesia, 206-192, and Sano ousted No. 3 Shayna Ng, Singapore, 211-172. Sano received the silver medal while Ng and Roumimper shared the bronze. The championships will continue on Tuesday with the Men's Doubles competition.

Oqab starts 3rd Asian Indoor Games with victory in Men's Singles

2009AIGLogo_small.jpgNaif Oqab, the lowest seed in the 8-player Men's Singles finals, cruised to victory in the opening bowling event of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games Sunday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. The Arab flew past qualifying leader Jang Dong-Chul, Korea, in the quarterfinal, 279-183, then edged No. 4 seed, Biboy Rivera, 219-194, Philippines, in the semis and took the gold medal in the title match against No. 6 seed, Choi Bok-Eum, Korea, by three pins, 222-219.
