Asian Bowling Federation Tour teams up with Wharf House

3-year appointment starts immediately

ABFTourLogo_small.jpg The Asian Bowling Federation Tour has established a comprehensive new strategic alliance with international sports marketing agency Wharf House, under which Wharf House has been appointed to exclusively market the worldwide marketing and media rights for the ABF Tour, including the ABF Tour's flagship event, the Tournament of Champions. The 3-year appointment, which starts immediately, will also enable the ABF Tour to benefit from a detailed technical analysis, by Wharf House, of its existing sporting and commercial strategies.

Andrew Frawley, Tang Joh Six win the titles at ABF Tour Tournament of Champions

In a high-class men's championship match, Frawley topped  Biboy Rivera, Philippines, 249-235, to win the prestigious title and the $20,000 top prize. Thai men and Indonesian women earn top seeds for ABF Tour Tournament of Champions Finals

ABFTourLogo_small.jpg Somjed Kusonpithak and Sithiphol Kunaksorn, both Thailand, and Tannya Roumimper and Sharon Limansantoso, both Indonesia, earned the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for the single-elimination finals of the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. Kusonpithak averaged 218.71 on the second day of qualifying and won all but one of his seven matches to leap to spots in the lead in the men's division with 3334 15-game total and an 11-4 won-loss record. Trailing day one leader Limansantoso by 11 pins  Roumimper rolled the second highest 1460 series (208.57 average) and won five out of seven matches to lead the qualifying in the women's division with 3261 and a 9-6 won-loss record.

Philippine men and Indonesian women dominate first block of qualifying in the 2008 ABF Tour Tournament of Champions

2008AsCChesterKing_small.jpg Chester King (left), Philippines, and Sharon Limansantoso, Indonesia, set the pace in the 2008 ABF Tour Tournament of Champions after the first 8-game block Friday at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. King felled 1690 pins over eight games and won six of his eight matches (10 pins bonus per win) to lead the men's field with a score of 1750. Mere two pins behind to sit in second place was King's compatriot Biboy Rivera with 1748. On the women's side, Sharon Limansantoso beat out her team mate Tannya Roumimper for the top spot by 11 pins, 1762 to 1751.

Tournament of Champions ends 2008 Asian Bowling Federation Tour season

The 32 players will compete for total prize fund of USD103,000 - $62,000 for the men and $41,000 for the women. The champions will walk away with $20,000 and $10,000, respectively.

Park, Kunaksorn claim the titles in the last event of the 2008 ABF Tour in Indonesia

ABFTourLogo_small.jpg Former Korean national team member Park Jin Hee and Sithiphol Kunaksorn from Thailand captured the last titles of the 2008 ABF Tour season Sunday at Ancol Bowl in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the women's title match, Park defeated Zatil Iman, 195-193, after the Malaysian opened in the final two frames. Kunaksorn had games of 224, 228, and 241 on his way to the men's title match where he edged Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, by one pin, 230-229. With the 75 ranking points for the victory, both champions made the top 16, who qualified for the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions from Jan. 16-18, 2009 also at Ancol Bowl in Jakarta.

Another clean sweep for The Philippines in ABF Tour; Layoso earns second title in two days

Layoso, who sealed the victory in the Open Saturday with back-to-back 260s, rolled games of 238, 278 and 277 in his first three rounds and topped compatriot Chester King in the title match, 239-234. Posadas saved her best for the last game, when she flew past fellow countrywoman Lovella Catalan, 258-199, to win the women's title.

On the women's side, Chen Dongdong (right) from China held off local favorite Vanessa Fung, Hong Kong, 245-214, to secure the women's title. The event was the fourth leg of the 2008 Asian Bowling Federation Tour.

Lalisang defends his title at ABF Tour Kuwait leg

2008ABFT03RyanLalisang_small.jpg Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia defeated Hussain Al-Suwaidi, 217-204, in the title match of the Asian Bowling Federation Tour Kuwait leg, to successfully defend his title at Cozmo Bowling Center in Kuwait City. In the semi-final, Lalisang eliminated Kuwait Open champion Jason Belmonte, Australia, in a re-match of last year's final, 222-208. In the other semi-final, Al-Suwaidi sidelined Kuwaiti Khaled Al-Dubyyan, 207-204. The fourth stop of the ABF Tour will be held in Hong Kong on June 8.

Al-Hassan, who won the Open and $30,000, 224-208, remained undefeated as he flew past his compatriot, 245-215, to win the title and 75 ranking points, but no prize money.

Kusonpithak defends his title; wins ABF Tour season opening event in Thailand

Zhang Yun Hong, China, captured her first career victory at S.F. Strike Bowl in Ngamwongwan, Thailand, with a 199-168 win over 2007 Asian and ABF Tour Ranking champion Kim Eun Jung, Korea.

Kritchawat, Chan capture men's and women's title in ABF Tour Tournament of Champions

Chan easily defeated the crowd's favorite Shalima Zalsha, Indonesia, 218-168, to capture the women' title and $10,000. The men's final was an all-Thailand affair between the two qualifying leaders. No. 1 seed, Kritchawat Jampakhao topped No. 2 Surasak Manuwong, 203-174, to cruise to victory, worth $20,000.

The ABF Tour Tournament of Champions will be broadcasted LIVE on Indonesia Metro TV and the highlights of the finals will be televised later on local television channels of the seven countries where the tour was held.

The prestigious tournament will be contested at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center in Jakarta, Indonesia from January 10-13, 2008. The field is spearheaded by ABF ranking champions Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia and Kim Eun Jung, Korea.
As the Asian Bowling Federation is currently changing its webmaster, the ABF website is temporarily inactive.

The legs in the Arabic countries, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia were for men only. Ryan Lalisang (l.), Indonesia, and Kim Eun Jung (r.), Korea, won the 2007 men's and women's ABF Tour rankings by a landslide. The top 16 men and the top 16 women in the 2007 ABF Tour rankings qualified for the ABF Tour Tournament of Champions.

In a low-scoring men's title match, Lalisang defeated Yannaphon Larp-apharat, Thailand, 163-149. Kim, who survived a 157-155 opening match against Lily Suhaimi, Indonesia, topped Bernice Lim, Singapore, in the women's title match, 200-165.
