Stricter eligibility and lower entry fees in February High Roller

New rules disallow national team members and champions

HighRollerLogo_small.jpg Brad Edelmann, Tournament Director of the High Roller Megabuck events, has informed us that effective for the 2008 February High Roller, the "A Game" & the Las Vegas Red Hot (Feb. 2-9, 2008), many of the world's top amateurs won't be present. New eligibility rules now disallow men and women players from any country's national team, including Team USA, going back to 2003.

U.S. Americans claim 50 per cent of the gold medals in 45th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas

ToALogo_small.jpg Though the United States Bowling Congress hasn't sent an official team and coaches to the 45th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas, the U.S. team claimed 18 out of 36 or 50 per cent of the gold medals at Don Carter's Tamarac Lanes in Tamarac, Fla., United States. 137 players from 17 countries participated in the event which was established in 1963. Other countries who won gold medals were Venezuela (6), Mexico (5), Canada (3), Guatemala (2), Brazil and Colombia (1 each).

Guatemala and Colombia win their first gold medal at Tournament of The Americas

Bridgette Harrelson/Ed Roberts and Nikki Iozzia/Nathan Ricks won the 8th and 9th gold medal for the United States in the Adult and Under-15 diviisons.

ToALogo_small.jpg Raindey Chavez and Arturo Hernandez, Venezuela, and Bryanna Caldwell and Brigette Harrelson, United States won the Adult Male and Female Doubles titles in the 45th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas at Don Carter's Tamarac Lanes in Tamarac, Fla., United States. The Venezuelans totaled 2560 pins, a 213.33 average for six games, the highest score of all participants, while Caldwell, who won her second title in as many days teamed with Brigette Harrelson for 2373 (197.75).

ToALogo_small.jpg Daniel Falconi, Mexico and Bryanna Caldwell, United States, won the men's and women's Singles titles after 12 games in the 45th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas at Don Carter's Tamarac Lanes in Tamarac, Fla., United States. Falconi shot the highest series of all 138 competitors from 17 countries with 2639 12-game total and an average of 219.92. Caldwell had the highest women series with 2559 (213.25). USA won four out of eight divisions, Canada two, and Mexico and Venezuela one each.

The Chilean Federation is going through a major transition.

Mexico (3) and Costa Rica take the gold medals in Doubles at CONCABA CAMBOWL Junior

Ernesto Bustamante/Estevan Hays and Mariana Alvarado/Olivia Montoya swept the gold medals in the Boys and Girls Under-15 division. Their team mates Aseret Zetter/Tannya Lopez earned the third gold in the Girls Under-21 division. Alberto Lizano and Diego Venegas (pictured) topped the Boys Under-21 Division en route to win Costa Rica's first gold medals in this year's event.

Montana and Northern New Jersey teams take titles at 2007 QubicaAMF International Family Tournament

Each first place team received $5,000 Scholarships

Daniel (11 years old) and Melinda Kagarise, Billings, Mont., along with Kyle (17 years old) and Jerome Bauer, Howell, N. J., prevailed in the final matches to claim the Parent/Youth and Parent/Teen division titles respectively at the 2007 QubicaAMF International Family Tournament held July 26-28 at Indian Lanes in Wyandotte, Mich., a suburb of Detroit. Both first-place teams each won $5,000 scholarships to go towards their college education. Overall, scholarships totaling $70,000 were distributed. 32 teams from 27 states, as well as Canada, competed in each division at the IFT, which celebrated its 32nd year.

Popular Bowler Dolores Alvarez dies of cancer By Bob Austin

Delores "Dee" Alvarez, bowler and bowling coach extraordinaire, is at peace from the disease she fought so valiantly for more than five years. Alvarez, 70, succumbed to pancreatic cancer Saturday at a local hospital, leaving behind years of bowling friends and memories. She coached Tampa's Lucy Giovinco to victory in the 1976 AMF World Cup in Iran and Tampa's Terry Yoshihara to a seventh-place finish in Indonesia in 1980.

"I had to miss a whole year when I had back surgery and I didn't know how much I missed the sport until then," said Simpson. In the women's title match, Singles and All Events winner Restrepo (pictured) flew past third-seeded Alejandra Mora, 621-528. On the men's side, Ortega, seeded fourth, ousted All Events champ Julio C. Ochoa, 586-512, in the semi-final and went on to defeat second-seeded Juan C. Rodríguez for the title, 644-584.

Big payday for Rhino Page, wins $25,000 in July High Roller

A huge crowd saw Page fire a 210 in the Shootout Round, good for a $25,000 payday at Sam's Town in Las Vegas, NV.  Page joins Rick Miller of Nebraska in the Winner's Circle. Miller took two legs of the Triple Header, the 'A' Game ($10,000) and Las Vegas Red Hot ($12,000).

NABI Tournament ready to roll in Las Vegas with future eyes on International Market By Dick Evans

NABI's tough handicap rules have eliminated sandbaggers for 23 years and it will be no different when the 2007 NABI National Championship Tournament is held July 13-21 at The Orleans Hotel/Casino/Bowling Center in Las Vegas. More than 1,000 bowlers are expected to enter many of the 10 different tournaments that are offered during NABI week.
