Venezuelan Bowling Federation selects players for 2006 Team

VENflagg.jpg The Venezuelan Bowling Federation has selected the players for the adult, youth and senior 2006 Team Venezuela. The selection procedure already started in the year 2005 with the national rankings and concluded in January 2006 with a total of 84 games over four weekends - 12 days and 12 different lane conditions.

Ingloriously, the end had come for another Las Vegas landmark -- one with a rich sports history.

Under 20 Team Canada selected for American Zone Youth Championships

CTFLogo.jpg The Canadian Tenpin Federation has announced the team that will represent Canada at the World Tenpin Federation's XI American Zone Youth Championships to be held in Pueblo, Mexico, June 9-17. CTF named the highest finishers - male and female - in the all events competition who are age eligible (under 20 as of January 1, 2006) from the 2004 and 2005 National Youth Championships.

Bill Orlikowski wins 4th Punta Cana Open

Bill_Orlikowski_5713.jpgFormer PBA professional Bill Orlikowski came back from being down 0-1 to defeat Steve Weber, two-games-to-one en route to win the 4th Punta Cana Open in the Dominican Republic and the $12,000 top prize. The U.S. players took the first five spots in the $50,000 tournament with Alejandro Reyna of Costa Rica in sixth and the Quintero brothers Mario and his newly married younger brother Arturo in seventh and eighth place.

Tornadoes destroy home of South Florida International

 Two tornadoes spawned by Hurricane Wilma lifted the roof and destroyed total interior of Sawgrass Lanes, the new home of the South Florida International - formerly known as the Greater Miami International - which was scheduled to run April 1-8, 2006. The tournament will be postponed until either the end of April or into May depending on the completion date of the rebuilding of Sawgrass Lanes.

We have now received the Kingpin Postponement Official Statement promising that "all contestants will be offered a full refund of any and all funds they have paid the Kingpin organizers."

Guerra and Perez dominate 3rd International Los Caneros Tournament

Aumi_Guerra_5571.jpg Aumi Guerra (left) and Jean Perez dominated the 3rd International Los Caneros Tournament at Punta Cana Lanes in the Dominican Republic. Guerra won the women's titles in Singles, Doubles and All Events, while Perez topped the men's field in Doubles and All Events and finished second in Singles. His third title came when he posted a 1925, 8-game high in the team event for a tied first place with 6859 pinfall total (214,34 ave)!

Mexico and United States dominate 43rd Tournament of the Americas

ToALogo.jpg The teams from Mexico and the United States dominated the 43rd annual Tournament of the Americas at Sawgrass Lanes in Sunrise, Fla. Team USA won two national all-events titles in the adult and junior division, while Mexico won the senior division. Both countries captured five out of six individual all-events titles. The gold medal in Women Adult went to Alicia Marcano of Venezuela.

ODEPA admits Tenpin Bowling in the program of the Pan American Games

 Cesar Maciel from Brazil has informed us that the Executive Committee of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) confirmed masculine indoor football and included bowling, water skiing, skating (artistic and speed) and karate in the program of the Pan American Games Rio 2007. "This is a big victory for bowling", wrote Maciel. "They are trying to include Olympic sports only in the Pan Am Games".

1st Youth International Tournament in Punta Cana

The 1st Youth International Tournament took place July 3 through 10 at Punta Cana Lanes in Punta Cana. 38 players - boys and girls - from Puerto Rico, Canada and host country Dominican Republic participated in three age groups in Singles, Doubles, 4-player teams and All Events. Puerto Rico and Canada earned seven titles each, while Dominican bowlers took three titles.

Former PBA Commissioner Gerberich receives John Davis Award

Mark Gerberich, the former Commissioner of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), has been named as the 2005 recipient of "The John Davis Award". The surprise presentation was made in Orlando, Florida at the International Bowl Expo. Gerberich, 45, now joins a very impressive list of honorees that includes: Joyce Deitch, John Weber, Ted Hoffman, Jr. and Jim Dressel.

Josie Earnest.jpg Alejandro Prats from the Dominican Republic and Junior Team USA's Josie Earnest (pictured) won the All Events titles at the 3rd International Youth Friendship Tournament in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Prats had a 5368 24-game total and an average of 223,67. Earnest, who also won the Singles, Doubles and Team events, led with 5191 (216,29).

Jennifer Willis-Park and George Lambert IV win gold medals at CTF National Championships

Jennifer Willis-Park, Nanaimo, BC and George Lambert IV of Hamilton, Ontario earned the gold medals at the Canadian Tenpin Federation National Championships. Danyck Briere, Montreal, Quebec, used the second perfect game of the tournament to claim the silver medal. Bronze went to Jonathan Simoneau, Laval, Quebec. Caroline Lagrange, Notre-Dame de Pins, Quebec, finished second in the women's division with American Zone North Region ranking leader Melody Savage, Winnipeg, Manitoba, in third place.

Roberts, seeded 2nd for the 8-player single-elimination best of three games final, defeated Viera in the decider, 217-201, to seal the victory.
