Petraglia continues record onslaught in PBA Senior Sun Bowl

Hall of Famer averages 253 to lead field into match play at The Villages

2008PBAS05JohnnyPetraglia_small.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia (pictured left) continued to scorch Spanish Springs Lanes Tuesday, averaging a torrid 253.5 through 18 games to lead the PBA Senior Sun Bowl in The Villages field into the start of match play Wednesday. Petraglia, who is seeking his eighth career PBA Senior Tour title, posted games of 226, 258, 277, 266, 268 and 237 on the first of three squads Tuesday, finishing the qualifying portion of the event with 4,563 pins, 35 pins shy of the record set by Dick Baker in Boise, Idaho, in 1999.

200809PBA19JohnnyPetraglia_small.jpgPBA Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia (pictured left) continued to pace the PBA Senior Sun Bowl In The Villages field in record style by retaining his lead after second round qualifying Monday at Spanish Springs Lanes. With an overall 3,031 PBA Senior Tour record 12-game pinfall (252.5 average), the 62-year-old Petraglia from Jackson, N.J., holds a 91-pin lead over two-time Senior Tour titlist Ron Mohr of Eagle River, Alaska. The field of 125 players will bowl one more six-game qualifying round on Tuesday after which the top 32 players will advance to round-robin match play Wednesday.

2008PBAS05JohnnyPetraglia3_small.jpgProfessional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia (pictured left) averaged a blistering 259.5 Sunday for a six-game record 1,557 pins and the first round lead in the PBA Senior Sun Bowl in The Villages at Spanish Springs Lanes. Petraglia posted games of 267, 248, 268, 279, 237 and 258 to regain the record he lost earlier in the day to second-year PBA Senior Bobby Johnson of Chillicothe, Ohio. Qualifying continues with two more six-game blocks on Monday and Tuesday.

PBA Senior Tour returns to The Villages, Fla. after nine-year absence

RogerWorkman_small.jpgThe Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour returns to The Villages, Fla., for the fourth stop of the 2009 PBA Senior Tour season. A field of approximately 120 of the world's top senior bowlers, ages 50 and older, will compete in the PBA Senior Sun Bowl in The Villages at Spanish Springs Lanes May 9-13. The PBA Senior Tour revisits The Villages after a nine-year absence. In 2000, The Villages hosted the PBA Senior World Championship won by Roger Workman (pictured). The Sun Bowl format will take on a new look with all bowlers competing in six-game qualifying blocks on May 10, 11 and 12.

Dale Eagle ends four-year drought by capturing PBA Senior Mooresville Miller High Life Classic

Dale Eagle of Tavares, Fla., captured his first PBA Senior Tour title in four years, by winning the PBA Senior Mooresville Miller High Life Classic Wednesday at George Pappas Victory Lanes. Eagle, earned his 11th career Senior Tour title by defeating PBA Hall of Famer Mark Williams of Beaumont, Texas, 247-224, in the championship match. Eagle's last Senior Tour win came in 2005 in Klamath Falls, Ore., but he has finished second several times since then including twice last year. With 11 titles, Eagle is tied for third all time in Senior Tour wins with Gene Stus.

2007PITDaleEagle_small.jpgTen-time Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour champion Dale Eagle says he’s feeling his age, but bowled like a teenager Tuesday to emerge as the 16-game qualifying leader in the PBA Senior Mooresville Miller High Life Classic at George Pappas Victory Lanes. Eagle, who won his last title in the Senior Clarksville, Tenn., Open in 2005, fired second-round games of 228, 259, 274, 268, 258, 256, 280 and 257 for a near-record round total of 2,080 pins (260.00 average) and a 16-game total of 3,965.

200809PBA19JohnnyPetraglia_small.jpgJohn Petraglia (pictured), Jackson, N.J., one of the newest inductees into the USBC Hall of Fame, took the lead in the qualifying of the PBA Senior Mooresville Miller High Life Classic in North Carolina, the third of 12 events of the 2009 PBA Senior Tour. Petraglia averaged 246.52 over eight games to lead the field of 144 players with 1972 pinfall total. Petraglia also rolled one of total eight 300 games in the round. Competition continues with the second eight-game qualifying block on May 5.

PBA Senior Tour heads to Charlotte area for Mooresville Miller High Life Classic

George Pappas, one of the Professional Bowlers Association's all-time greatest players, will host the world's greatest PBA Senior Tour players at George Pappas Victory Lanes when the PBA Senior Mooresville Miller High Life Classic visits Mooresville, N.C., May 3-6. Pappas, voted the 33rd best bowler of all time as part of PBA's 50th anniversary celebration this season, is a 10-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour and two-time Senior Tour titlist. He is scheduled to compete in a field that will feature approximately 150 players age 50 and older.

Mohr, a four-time member of Team USA, won his first Senior Tour title last week in the season-opening Senior Jackson (Mich.) Open.

The 57-year-old Psaropoulos had a 1,933 eight-game pinfall with games of 194, 247, 243, 254, 239, 265, 264 and 227 to hold a 46-pin lead over Emilio Mora of Defiance, Ohio, in second with 1,887. PBA Hall of Famer and 24-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour titlist Brian Voss, bowling in his first season on the Senior Tour, is in third with 1,879.

The Dayton stop is the second of 12 events held throughout the spring and summer as the Senior Tour celebrates its 29th season.

Alaskan Ron Mohr wins first PBA Senior Tour Title in Season Opener

Former Team USA member tops James Stanley in Jackson, Michigan

2008PBAS07RonMohr_small.jpgRon Mohr of Eagle River, Alaska, defeated James Stanley of Cincinnati, Ohio, 246-236, to win his first Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour title in the PBA Senior Jackson Open at Airport Lanes Tuesday. It was the opening event on the PBA Senior Tour's 2009 schedule. Stanley advanced to the title match after eliminating defending Senior Jackson Open champion Johnny Petraglia of Jackson, N.J., 10-9, in a one-ball roll-off after they tied at 226-226. Mohr defeated Bill Henson of Westerville, Ohio, 289-258, in their semifinal round match.

Parks, the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters champion, leads with a 3,994 pinfall, 47 pins ahead of PBA Hall of Famer and 2008 PBA Senior U.S. Open champion Wayne Webb of Sacramento, Calif., in second with 3,947. The field of 151 has been cut to the top 32 qualifiers for match play rounds that begin Tuesday morning.

Hall of Famer Steve Cook takes first round lead in PBA Senior Jackson Open

Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Steve Cook of Granite Bay, Calif., averaged 248.12 for eight games to take the first round lead in the Professional Bowlers Association Senior Jackson Open at Airport Lanes Sunday. Cook, a 15-time Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour champion looking for his first Senior Tour win, had games of 277, 234, 204, 245, 258, 246, 253 and 268 to hold an 11-pin lead over Charlie Tapp of Kalamazoo, Mich., in second. The full field of 151 players will bowl one more eight-game qualifying round Monday before the field will be cut to the top 32 qualifiers for match play rounds on Tuesday.

PBA announces revised 2009 PBA Senior Tour Schedule

The summer 2009 schedule will include two Majors – the USBC)Senior Masters and the PBA Senior U.S. Open, along with eight standard events. The PBA Senior Tour schedule will also feature the return of the unique "Ladies and Legends" tournament, an event in which PBA Senior pros are paired-up with women professional bowlers. The 2009 PBA Senior Tour season kicks-off in April in Jackson, Mich., and ends August 26 in Lansing, Mich.
