2011PBAS07DaleTraber_small.jpgOver the past three years, Dale Traber of Cedarburg, Wis., has grown fond of the format and the challenging lane conditions at the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters. Traber has won two of the past three Senior Masters titles, claiming the event in 2009 and 2011 (pictured left with the trophy), and will be among a field of nearly 300 of the top bowlers age 50 and over at this year's event, which begins June 11 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas.

Ventura leads with a 4,295 18-game pinfall total (238.1 average) and heads a field of 55 players who advanced to Thursday's final qualifying round. Making a charge were two-time winners Wayne Webb and Tom Baker, who leaped into second and third place, respectively, and who are hoping to become the tournament's first three-time winner.

The top 55 after Wednesday's third round will survive the first cut.

Dias, who won the PBA Senior Don Carter Open in 2011 for his lone Senior Tour title, had a 1,488 six-game pinfall total with games of 214, 300, 237, 212, 257 and 268. He holds a four-pin lead over Sammy Ventura (r.) of Syracuse, N.Y., in second with 1,484.

More than 200 players will compete in Senior Tour's first major of 2012 season at Suncoast in Las Vegas

Lennie Boresch Jr. averages 250 to take first round lead in PBA Senior Dayton Classic

201011PBALennieBoresch_small.jpgAfter two tournaments Lennie Boresch Jr. of Kenosha, Wis., has already experienced the highs and lows of competing on the PBA Senior Tour. He won the opening tournament of the season in his Senior Tour debut but could only manage a 46th-place finish in the next tournament he entered. But the 50-year-old pro shop owner and recent inductee into the USBC Hall of Fame was able to get back on track Tuesday by averaging 250.5 to take the first round lead in the PBA Senior Dayton Classic presented by Roto Grip at Capri Lanes.

He holds a 36-pin lead over one-time Senior Tour titlist Mike Henry of Brunswick, Ohio in second with 1,971. Five-time PBA Tour winner Bob Learn Jr. of Erie, Pa., is in third with 1,931.

Kauble, trying for his second Senior Tour title, had a 1,414 six-game pinfall total and an average of 235.67. Right behind Kauble are PBA Hall of Famers Dale Eagle of Tavares, Fla., in second with 1,402, and Walter Ray Williams Jr. of Ocala, Fla., in third with 1,393. Qualifying continues Monday and Tuesday after which the 106-player field will be cut to the top 32.

The 157-player was cut to the top 32 who advanced to match play Tuesday morning. By qualifying in the top eight, Mohr earned two byes.

2012 PBA Senior Tour Season to be Dave Soutar's farewell tour

Hall of Famer to call it a career after 51 years of PBA competition

PBAUSBCHOFDaveSoutar_small.jpgAfter more than a half century competing on the PBA National and Senior Tours, Hall of Famer Dave Soutar (pictured) of Bradenton, Fla., is going to call it a career at the conclusion of the 2012 Senior Tour season. Soutar will begin his 51st year in PBA competition when the 2012 PBA Senior Tour season opens April 21-24 with the PBA Senior Sun Bowl In The Villages presented by Storm at Spanish Spring Lanes. Soutar's career began in 1961 and produced 18 PBA Tour titles and seven Senior Tour titles.
