Live on Monday, Jan. 7, is sold out, and those who attend the annual fundraiser for the Chris Paul Foundation will have a chance to watch five PBA League owners (Paul, actor/comedian Kevin Hart, former NFL star Terrell Owens, Pittsburgh Steelers star LaMarr Woodley and comedian/podcast star Chris Hardwick) bowl, along with women's boxing champion Laila Ali, daughter of former heavyweight and Olympic champion Muhammad Ali, and other celebrities.

PBA star Chris Barnes undergoes gall bladder surgery

Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, will be home for the holidays after undergoing gall bladder removal surgery Tuesday, according to a Facebook note posted by his wife, Lynda Barnes. The 14-time PBA Tour titlist had just returned home from the Qatar Open. Barnes had been experiencing abdominal pain recently, and an ultrasound performed upon his return identified gall stones, Lynda Barnes reported. He was released from the hospital Thursday morning.

PBA off to strong ratings start; new ESPN promotional spot debuts

The PBA Tour got its 2012-13 season off to a strong ratings start when Sunday's telecast of the Bayer Advanced Aspirin World Bowling Tour Finals presented by PBA posted a 14 percent increase in audience viewership over the first telecast of the 2011-12 season. Leading into the opening telecast of the new season, a new ESPN promotional campaign called "Love the Lanes" debuted in advance of Sunday's WBT Finals.

Malaysia's World Cup champ dreams of bowling on PBA Tour

2012BWCChampionSyafiqRidhwan_small.jpgAfter becoming the first Malaysian bowler to win the Qubica AMF World Cup, Syafiq Ridhwan (l.) professed his dream is to continue to improve and one day bowl on the PBA Tour. The 26-year-old Ridhwan, who defeated Team USA member Marshall Kent in the title match in Wroclaw, Poland, told New Straits Time reporter Ajitpal Singh, "I actually want to turn pro, but I am not sure when I can achieve it. It takes a lot of dedication but I believe, if I do turn pro, I can make it as I've beaten many top bowlers before."

Countdown is on: PBA's 2012-13 ESPN coverage begins on December 9

2012GeicoPBAWSOBIVLogo_small.jpgThe countdown to the start of the PBA's 2012-13 debut on ESPN has begun. The finals of the WTBA's Bayer Advanced Aspirin World Bowling Tour men's and women's finals, presented by the PBA, will be the first in a series of 16 telecasts extending through April 7. The two-hour combined men's and women's show will air on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. ET. The next five Sundays in a row will feature GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling IV finals, all 90-minute programs airing at 1 p.m. ET.

PBA players head to Round 1 Japan Cup to close calendar year 2012

A field of 20 invited PBA Tour players will join a field that includes more than 100 Japan and Korean PBA members for the renewal of the Round 1 Japan Cup in Tokyo Nov. 30-Dec. 2, the final tournament of the calendar year. After a two-year absence, the Japan Cup returns twice in the extended 2012-13 PBA Tour season. The second Round 1 Japan Cup of the expanded season is scheduled for Nov. 28-30, 2013. As of Jan. 1, 2014, all PBA competition returns to a calendar year schedule.

George Gohagan III wins record-setting PBA all regions title in Las Vegas

201213PBATourLogo_small.jpgAmateur George Gohagan III of Roswell, Ga., defeated former PBA Women's Series champion Shannon Pluhowsky of Kettering, Ohio, in a one-ball sudden death roll-off, 10-9, that concluded a record-setting PBA All Regions South Point Open at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, Nov. 10. Gohagan, who earned $3,500, defeated England's Dominic Barrett, 300-298, in a nail-biting semifinal round match. Pluhowsky ousted Tom Daugherty of Wesley Chapel, Fla., 247-236, in the other semifinal match.

PBA World Series "Arena" to introduce stub lane for practice

2012GeicoPBAWSOBIVLogo_small.jpgThe special Brunswick bowling lane installation in South Point Exhibition Hall A in Las Vegas that will house the ESPN-televised finals of all six GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling IV events will include a change this year with the introduction of a stub lane for use in practice between stepladder matches, PBA Commissioner Tom Clark has announced. In addition to the two lanes that will be used for the actual competition, the shortened lane will be built in an off-camera area.

Chris Barnes wins 22nd PBA Regional title in Richardson

2012EBT04DinoCastillo_small.jpgFresh off his PBA International Tour victory in the Columbia 300 Vienna Open in Austria on Oct. 7, Chris Barnes (pictured) of Double Oak, Texas, dominated the field to win his 22nd PBA Regional title in the PBA Southwest Region Dallas Open. Barnes led the 12-game qualifying round by 199 pins over Sean Lavery-Spahr of Denton, Texas, and won nine of his 16 matches to build his lead to 266 pins over runner-up Dino Castillo of Carrollton, Texas.

Clara Guerrero becomes fifth woman to win PBA Regional title

2012AustinOpenClaraGuerrero_small.jpgColombian native Clara Juliana Guerrero (pictured) of Pflugerville, Texas, became the fifth woman to win a PBA Regional title Sunday when she posted a 7-4-1 match play record and a 25-game total of 5,869 pins to top Tyler Jensen of Fort Worth, Texas, by 26 pins in the PBA Southwest Region's Young and Pratt Austin Open at Dart Bowl in Austin, Texas. Guerrero, a two-time world champion and long-time member of the Colombian national team, pocketed $2,500 for the win.

Vienna Open victory clinches berth for Barnes in WBT men's finals

By winning the event, Barnes has officially locked Rash out of the Bayer Advanced Aspirin World Bowling Tour men's finals, presented by the PBA.

PBA players to wear "TR" emblem as tribute to Tony Reyes; patches available to public

Tony Reyes.jpgAs a tribute to fallen friend and fellow competitor Tony Reyes (pictured), PBA Tour players will wear a special black-and-silver "TR" emblem during competition in the months ahead. The special TR logo reflects the colors of Reyes' favorite sports team, the Oakland Raiders. While supplies last, the "TR" patches will be available through the PBA office (and on-site at all PBA tournaments) for $5 each, with all proceeds benefitting Reyes' family.

Race for World Bowling Tour Finals heads into final three international events

WBTLogo_small.jpgThe race for the final three berths in the WTBA's 2012 World Bowling Tour Men's and Women's Finals presented by the PBA heads into its final three events, starting next week in Thailand. The final three WBT qualifying events leading into the PBA World Series of Bowling are the WBT Thailand, Sept. 24-30, in Bangkok; the Columbia 300 Vienna Open, Oct. 2-7, in Vienna, Austria, and the AMF Australian Masters, Oct. 8-27, at Sydney.

Barnes, Jones, Kulick to represent U.S. in WTBA World Singles Championships

A new country heard from for World Series of Bowling IV

Among the early entries for PBA World Series of Bowling IV, set for Nov. 2-11 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, is Iceland's Hafthor Hardarson (pictured), the first player from his country to enter the annual multi-event international bowling showcase that will kick off the PBA Tour's 2012-13 season. Entries received to date by the PBA office include players from nine countries - Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, the U.S. and Venezuela in addition to Iceland. World Series III drew players from a record 15 countries.

Big finish gives Rash West Region Chameleon title

Sean Rash (pictured) of Montgomery, Ill., rolled games of 279 and 300 in his final two matches to win the PBA West/Northwest Region Chameleon Don Johnson Memorial presented by Brunswick at fourth Street Bowl in San Jose, Calif., on Sunday, Sept. 2, by 69 pins over Jeff Frankos of Daly City, Calif. When do you have to throw 13 strikes for a 300 game? When you start the game on the wrong lane, and have to throw the shot over…which is what Rash did in his final game.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. wins his 31st PBA Regional title for 85th overall PBA title

It was Williams' 31st standard PBA Regional title and 85th overall PBA title. He eliminated Doyle in the semifinal, 226-214.

PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber set to join PBA50 Tour in 2013

PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber (pictured) of St. Ann, Mo., is ready to join the PBA50 Tour after celebrating his 50th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Weber, the winner of 35 PBA Tour titles (fourth on the all-time list) and a record 47 PBA Regional titles, is the only player in history to win five U.S. Open titles. He has bowled in 726 PBA Tour tournaments in a career that began at age 17 in 1979 - when he became the youngest player ever to win a PBA Regional title. Next year's PBA50 Tour schedule will be announced later in the fall.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. sweeps 2012 PBA Senior Tour Statistics

After dominating the season statistical categories for more than two decades on the PBA Tour, PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. (pictured left) of Ocala, Fla., is doing more of the same as a member of the PBA Senior Tour. Williams, who won his first PBA Senior Player of the Year title in a points contest designed specifically for that purpose, also led all 50-and-older players in competition points, average and earnings as the nine-event 2012 season came to an end Tuesday, Aug. 14, in Decatur, Ill.

The fourth annual multi-event program is open to PBA "full" members and PBA International members. The $750 entry fee includes entry into the PBA Cheetah, Viper, Scorpion and Chameleon Championships along with the PBA World Championship. The field is limited to the first 240 entrants.
