USBC Coaching signs agreement with Japan Bowling Congress

2016USBCCoachingJPBATesting_small.jpg Stephen Padilla, Director of Coaching Certification and Development for the United States Bowling Congress, recently had the opportunity to travel to Japan to conduct the first Level I and Bronze certification coaching classes for the Japanese Professional Bowling Association (JPBA). Following the classes, USBC Coaching signed an international agreement with the Japan Bowling Congress to host future coaching certification classes.

Paeng Nepomuceno named coach of Philippine bowling team

USBCGoldCoachPaengNepomuceno_small.jpgPaeng Nepomuceno, the only bowler in history to win the World Cup four times, has been tasked to put the Philippines back on the right lane. The Philippine Bowling Congress has announced the appointment of the great bowler as head coach of the national team. Nepomuceno's contract, according to PBC executive vice president Steve Robles, has been forwarded to the Philippine Sports Commission for approval. There shouldn't be any problem with the PSC giving its stamp of approval.

Ohio's Joyce Latham named USBC Youth Volunteer of the Year

2016USBCYouthVolunteeroftheYearJoyceLatham_small.jpg Joyce Latham of Columbus, Ohio, who became a bowling coach more than 20 years ago, has been selected to receive the 2016 United States Bowling Congress Youth Volunteer of the Year Award. The prestigious national award recognizes an adult volunteer who has displayed outstanding efforts to foster, organize and promote youth bowling at the local, state and/or national levels. Latham will receive an expenses-paid trip to the USBC Convention, scheduled for April 26-29 in Las Vegas, where she will be presented the award.

2016 World Bowling Coach Conference set for May at ITRC

2016WorldBowlingCoachConferenceLogo_small.jpgThe World Bowling Coach Conference will return to the International Training and Research Center (ITRC) in May, bringing together coaches from around the world for an educational conference on the sport of bowling. In conjunction with World Bowling, the world governing body for the sport of bowling, the ITRC staff will host the three-day conference from May 6-8 in Arlington, Texas.

Heather D'Errico to join Kegel Training Center Staff for 2016

2016BowlFitHeatherDErrico_small.jpg The Kegel Training Center has announced the addition of Heather D'Errico, founder of BowlFit, as an advisory staff member. D'Errico will be making appearances at events at the Training Center to give seminars on mobility, injury prevention, functional strength training, and conditioning as it pertains to the sport of bowling. D'Errico obtained a Master's degree in Exercise Science while assistant coaching for the bowling team and interning with the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Central Missouri.

The David Dahms Coach of the Year Award recognizes a United States Bowling Congress-certified coach who has been actively involved in a USBC Youth program and has demonstrated outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and knowledge of USBC Youth rules.

IBMA to honor Gordon Vadakin with Alberta E. Crowe Meritorious Service Award

Crowe Meritorious Service Award. Gordon Vadakin (pictured), who has made his mark in bowling as an athlete, instructor, coach, and even an entertainer of sorts, is being honored for his outstanding long-term accomplishments in and for the sport of bowling. The award will be presented during International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas.

Nepomuceno concludes USBC Silver Certification Seminar in Manila, Philippines

20141019SilverSeminarManila_small.jpgUnited States Bowling Congress Gold-level coach, instructor and international ambassador Rafael "Paeng" Nepomuceno has concluded a Silver certification seminar from October 17-19 at Paeng's Midtown Bowl at Ermita, Manila, Philippines. It was the third coaching seminar conducted by Nepomuceno so far this year. The current group of Silver-level coaches (pictured) either earned Bronze-level coaching validation through Paeng a few years ago or in last year's seminar.

Her passion is to coach, more than it is to bowl herself.

Team USA assistant coach Bryan O'Keefe earns gold status

2014USBCGoldCoachBryanOKeefe_small.jpg Bryan O'Keefe, a Team USA assistant coach since 2010, recently was awarded Gold-level coach status by the USBC Coaching Certification and Development department. O'Keefe, 39, is the Facility Manager of the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, where he teaches bowlers and supervises the ITRC pro shop in addition to working with Team USA and Junior Team USA players. USBC Gold is the highest level of certification a bowling coach can achieve, similar to obtaining a doctorate in a field of study.

Inaugural World Bowling Coach Conference concludes in Arlington, Texas

After three days of seminars and discussions featuring the top bowling coaches in the world, the inaugural World Bowling Coach Conference came to a close at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday. The conference was held in conjunction with World Bowling, the world governing body for the sport. The conference drew nearly 100 coaches, including 15 of the 24 active USBC Gold coaches, and 28 countries were represented.

Tenpin Bowling Australia partners with USBC on Coaching Program

The USBC Coaching Certification and Development programs provide coaches of all levels with the materials necessary to give them the best opportunities for coaching. Certification programs teach current and aspiring bowling coaches the skills necessary to build a strong coaching career.

World Bowling Coach Conference is underway

The inaugural World Bowling Coach Conference kicked off at the International Training and Research Center and top coaches from throughout the world will be in Arlington through the weekend to take part in seminars and discussions. The conference is being held in conjunction with World Bowling (the World Tenpin Bowling Association), the world governing body for the sport. The ITRC staff, led by Team USA head coach Rod Ross, is hosting the educational conference.

Public invited to submit coaching material for Global Coaching System

Over the past few months, the World Tenpin Bowling Association was solicited feedback on the coaching certification programs that exist at the federation level. Now, WTBA is seeking feedback from all coaches on their training systems.

ITRC gets cutting-edge technology with Google Glass

Rod Ross (pictured), director of the ITRC and Team USA head coach, recently received Google Glass, which is a tiny computer mounted onto an eyeglass frame. The wearable device can be used for hands-free video recording, which will help with coaching and training. Team USA member Mike Fagan had the opportunity to test it out.
