2005ABF03MASZulmazranZulkifli2.jpg Local favorite Zulmazran Zulkifli (left) and Amanda Ng from Singapore took different routes to win the men's and women's titles in the 2005 Asian Bowling Federation Tour Malaysia leg at Pyramid Megalanes in Kuala Lumpur.

Zulkifli, who averaged 249,5 in his four matches, flew past Carl De Vries, Singapore, 255-198, in the men's final.

Ng won both, her semi-final match and the championship in roll-off. After defeating Sarah Yap, 37-28, in the semis, she edged Jazreel Tan in an all-Singaporian affair, 39-36, after a 199-199 tie.

High scores and thrilling matches on Day 1 in ABFT Malaysia leg

The rounds of 16 and 8 in the 2005 Asian Bowling Federation Tour Malaysia leg at Pyramid Megalanes in Kuala Lumpur produced high scores and thrilling matches.

Malaysian Open champion Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, continued hot hand with games of 242 and 255 en route to advance to the men's semis to clash with local favorite Zulmazran Zulkifli. Zul was even better with games of 258 and 249. Singapore's Carl De Vries eliminated Joonee Gatchalian, Philippines, who shot the high game thus far with 269, in the Round of 8. De Vries will take on Malaysian Open runner-up Mustafa Yassin, Malaysia, who is looking forward to meeting Wu in the final for a rematch.

The highlight of the day was the 268-267 victory of last year's ABFT Tournament of Champions winner Wendy Chai over Malaysian Open winner Siti Safiyah Amirah, both of Malaysia. Chai was eliminated in the second match by Liza Clutario, The young Filipina meets Singapore's Jazreel Tan in the women's semi-finals. Tan's compatriot Amanda Ng topped Asian No. bowler Shalin Zulkifli to set up her semi-final match against the only remaining Malaysian woman Sarah Yap.
