Granda and Moreno start Cambowl Mayor 2006 in San Salvador with win in Singles

2006CambowlMayorGTM.jpg Sofia Granda of Guatemala and Angel Moreno, Costa Rica, started the Campeonato de Centroamérica y México Mayor de Bowling (Cambowl Mayor 2006) with a victory in the women's and men's singles. The picture shows the delegation of Guatemala.

The championship, which is a ranking event of the American Zone Central American Region, takes place at Galaxy Bowling in San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador, from May 22-27, 2006.

Attending the ceremony were the President of National Institute of Sports of El Salvador, Jorge H. Issusi, and the Vice President of the El Salvador National Olympic Committee, Ramon Nuila,

2006CambowlMayorESA.jpg 41 players - 18 women and 23 men - from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras and the host country of El Salvador (pictured right) took on the lanes on Monday evening for the Singles competition.

Sofia Granda, the 2001 World Games champion from Guatemala, was the sole woman to average 200-plus en route to claim the women's gold medal. Granda felled 1230 pins and averaged 205,00 for six games. Silver and bronze went to Costa Rica's Viviana Delgado (1158) and Marie Ramirez (1105).

2006CambowlMayorCRC.jpg In the men's division, Angel Moreno overtook team mate Diego Rojas, both of Costa Rica, in the final game thanks to a 255-score, the highest game of the day. Moreno finished with 1275 and an average of 212,50 to earn the gold medal. Rojas took the silver medal with 1240. Angel Ortiz secured the bronze medal for the host country with 1234.
