04/12/12
Athletes ranging in age and bowling styles, and a mix of experience and emerging talent, will represent Australia at two of the sport's major events in September this year.
A selection panel led by TBA National Coach, Chris Batson, today announced the teams for the 22nd Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship in Hong Kong from Sept. 2-11, and the inaugural WTBA World Singles Championship, to be held in Limassol, Cyprus, between Sept. 18-26.
Bowlers hailing from several States were chosen from the sport's National Training Squad, and the line-ups are:
22nd Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship
Men: Christian Purdue, New South Wales; Chris Castle, Victoria; Sam Cooley, New South Wales; Glen Loader, New South Wales; Brendan Meads, Queensland; and Stephen Cowland, New South Wales.
Women: Rebecca Whiting, Victoria; Ann-Maree Putney, New South Wales; Narelle Baker, Victoria; Bianca Flanagan, Queensland; Lexi Nicoll, New South Wales; and Kaitlyn Commane, Tasmania.
WTBA World Singles Championship
Men: Christian Purdue, New South Wales and Sam Cooley, New South Wales
Women: Lexi Nicoll, New South Wales and Ann-Maree Putney, New South Wales.
"The bowlers for these teams are chosen from TBA's National Training Squad and the athletes are selected by considering a variety of factors including coach-ability, natural talent, a keen desire to improve and of course current form," Batson said.
"The Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship is the qualifying tournament for the 2013 combined World Championship with both the men's and women's teams needing to finish in the top 12 to qualify.
"I believe both teams will perform to a standard that will qualify Australia for the World Championships in the USA next year," Batson added.
