The top 64 including defending champion Dale Traber advance to the double-elimination match-play bracket

201011PBALennieBoresch.jpgLennie Boresch (pictured left) of Kenosha, Wis., earned top qualifier honors Wednesday at the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters to lead the field of 64 players who advanced to the double-elimination match-play bracket.

Boresch finished the 15 games of qualifying with 3,599 (239.9 average) at the South Point Bowling Center. The top 63 players in the standings advanced to match play along with defending champion Dale Traber of Cedarburg, Wis.

"All the pins get thrown away now, so I have to go out there tomorrow and do what I've been doing," said Boresch, who was recently inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame. "Hopefully, I can win some matches. I feel good, and I feel like I'm throwing the ball well. We will just have to see what tomorrow brings."

Boresch started the final round of qualifying Wednesday with a bang, firing a 299 game. He left a 10 pin on his final shot, ending his bid at perfection. He added games of 225, 223, 225 and 204 to round out the day.

"I just had one of best qualifying rounds I've probably ever had, so I feel pretty good," Boresch said. "Toward the end of today's block, I didn't strike as much, so I've made some adjustments to my equipment and we'll see if that helps tomorrow."

2006EBT14ChristerDanielsson.jpg2010PBASDaleTraber.jpgWalter Ray Williams Jr. of Ocala, Fla., earned the No. 2 seed for match play with a qualifying total of 3,545. Christer Danielsson of Sweden (left) qualified third with 3,497, while two-time Senior Masters champion Tom Baker of King, N.C., finished fourth with 3,493.

Defending champion Dale Traber of Cedarburg, Wis., who had the advantage of being guaranteed a spot in bracket play, was trying to earn the highest seed possible. He finished qualifying in 18th place with 2,156.

Each round of the double-elimination match-play bracket consists of three-game matches with the winner determined by total pinfall. The winner will earn $16,000, and the total prize pool is $119,000.

Match play will get underway Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific. The championship match is set for Friday at 3:30 p.m. Pacific.
