Malaysian duo takes No. 1 seed in Girls Doubles Finals at World Youth Championships

    Teams from Singapore, Japan and Korea to challenge Malaysia for the title; all four spots go to Squad B teams, all four from Asia

    2012WYCJacquelineSijoreDayangKhairuniza.jpgFour doubles Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Korea, all from Squad B, will bowl for the title in Thursday's all-Asian Girls Doubles Finals at the 12th World Youth Championships at Blu-O Paragon Bowling Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

    2012WYCIlmaNurJannahKrishnaDarshini.jpgAfter a slow start (394) into the six-game block on the medium oil pattern, Dayang Khairuniza and Jacqueline Sijore of Malaysia (pictured left, r-l) fired games of 455, 439 and 498 to move to the top of the leaderboard and finished back-to-back 414 to lead the field of 45 doubles from 24 countries with 2614 total and an average of 217.83.

    Sijore, the adult World Champion in Singles, led all 98 women (45 doubles plus eight make-up players) with 1351 (225.17) and Khairuniza contributed 1263.

    Another four teams of Squad B topped Squad A leader Ilma Nur Jannah and Krishna Darshini of Singapore (right, l-r), who set the early pace with 2441 (203.42) in the second discipline of the Championships.

    Korea's Singles champion Kim Seon-Jeong and Hwang Yeon-Ju (below left, r-l) beat out Amanda Greene and Danielle McEwan of the United States (below right, l-r) for the fourth and last spot to advance by 52 pins, 2497 to 2445.

    With 12 of 18 games in the books, Jacqueline Sijore took over the lead in All Events (combined scores of the Singles, Doubles and Team preliminaries) with 2567 and an average of 213.92. Hwang Yeon-Ju is two pins behind second place with 2565. Singles bronze medalist Juliana Franco of Colombia is further 24 pins behind in third with 2541.

    Action shifts to the Boys Doubles preliminaries. The 178 players from 47 countries will be divided into four squads. Squad A, B and C will bowl the six games on medium oil on Wednesday. Squad D will conclude the preliminaries on Thursday. The Boys and Girls Doubles Finals will be held Thursday, June 28th, from 1 to 2.30 p.m. local time.

    2012WYCLogo.jpg The 12th World Youth Championships takes place at Blu-O Paragon Bowling Center in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 22 - July 3, 2012.

    274 girls and boys from record 48 countries, who must not have reached their 21st birthday on January 1, 2012, will compete will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, four-player Team event, All Events and Masters in the ten-day event.

    The WTBA patterns "Mexico City" and "Atlanta" will be used in Bangkok. The 45-foot Mexico City pattern is the second-longest of the twelve WTBA certified lane pattern (four short, four medium and four long). With a length of 38 feet, the Atlanta pattern is the shortest of the four medium pattern.

    Singles is being played on "Mexico City" and Doubles will be contested on "Atlanta", while the Team event will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). The Masters will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the medium pattern and the other lane dressed with the long pattern).

    The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meets No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the World Youth Champion, while the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
