England's Lam, Crosby earn the No. 1 seed for the Boys Doubles Finals in Bangkok

    England bowls South Korea in the semifinals; Sweden and USA square off in the other match

    2012WYCLogo.jpg 2012WYCKimBollebyMagnusJohnson.jpgChristopher Lam and Elliot Crosby of England averaged 215.42 and toppled 2585 pins in the final Squad D on Thursday morning to earn the No. 1 seed for the Boys Doubles Finals at the 12th World Youth Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

    Crosby led the team with 1345 and Lam added 1240. The duo, which had a high game of 525 in the fifth game, topped previous leader Sweden by 34 pins. Kim Bolleby and Magnus Johnson Jr. (right, l-r) slipped to second place with 2551 (212.58) including a WYC record 531 game.

    England and Sweden are the first countries from the European Zone, who reached a final at this Championships.

    Trailing the English boys by 46 pins in Squad D to finish the preliminaries in third place were 2010 WYC All Events champion Andrew Koff and his team mate Marshall Kent, who has won the Boys Singles title two day ago. The Americans totaled 2539 (211.58).

    Squad A leaders Kim Yeon-Sang and Hwang Dong-Jun of South Korea took the fourth and last place to advance to the finals with 2532 (211.00) and will bowl top seeded England in the semifinals. Sweden and USA will square off in the other match.

    Basil Low of Singapore held on to the lead in All Events (combined results of the Singles, Doubles and Team preliminaries) after 12 of 18 games with 2668 and an average of 222.33. Ryu Ji-Hoon of South Korea was 52 pins behind in second place with 2616. Sam Cooley of Australia moved into third place with 2606 followed by Singles champion Marshall Kent, United States, with 2601.

    274 girls and boys from record 48 countries, who must not have reached their 21st birthday on January 1, 2012, will compete will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, four-player Team event, All Events and Masters in the ten-day event.

    The WTBA patterns "Mexico City" and "Atlanta" will be used in Bangkok. The 45-foot Mexico City pattern is the second-longest of the twelve WTBA certified lane pattern (four short, four medium and four long). With a length of 38 feet, the Atlanta pattern is the shortest of the four medium pattern.

    Singles is being played on "Mexico City" and Doubles will be contested on "Atlanta", while the Team event will feature both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern). The Masters will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the medium pattern and the other lane dressed with the long pattern).

    The top four players and teams after six games in Singles, Doubles and Team, respectively, will advance to the semifinals. The No. 1 meets No. 4 and No. 2 takes on No. 3. The winners will determine the World Youth Champion, while the losers will share the bronze medal. All matches are single-game matches.
