Korea's Hwang Yeon-Ju holds on to the lead in Girls Masters competition

All Events champion Hwang Yeon-Ju (pictured left) of Korea rolled a solid 1234 series Monday morning at Blu-O Paragon Bowling Center in Bangkok, Thailand to maintain her lead in the Girls Masters competition at the 12th World Youth Championships as the field was cut to the top 8.
Hwang, who carried forward her 18-game total of 3871, led the top 24 players in All Events (combined results of the Singles, Doubles and Team preliminaries) after the Round of 24 with 5105 and an average of 212.71 for 24 games.

Reigning adult World Champion in Singles, Jacqueline Sijore (above right) of Malaysia leaped two spots into second place with 5057 (210.71) and narrowed the gap to 48 pins behind a 1311 series. All Events silver medalist New Hui Fen (left), Singapore, managed 1227 but slipped one spot to third place with 4984 (207.67).
Starting the round in 14th place, Bernice Lim (right) of Singapore made history in the second game when she became the fifth player in the history of World Youth Championships and just the second girl, who rolled a 300 game. Lim used the perfecto for a 1316 series (219.33) to jump into fourth place with 4927 (205.29).

Dayang Khairuniza of Malaysia leaped one spot to sixth place with 1190 and 4882 (203.42). Rounding out the top 8 were Oh Nuri of Korea and Juliana Franco (right) of Colombia, who were tied at 4874 (203.08).
Team champions Jessica Earnest and Danielle McEwan, United States, toppled 1222 and 1233 pins but missed the cut by 14 and 20 pins in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
Singles silver medalist Hee Kar Yen was the sole player, who fell out of the top 8. The Malaysian suffered an 1120 series and slipped from sixth to 11th place with 4824 (201.00).
The top 8 girls will return Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. local time for seven games round robin match play before the cut to the top 4 with the pinfall total being carried forward.
The top 4 advance to the semifinals (No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3) starting at 1 p.m.. The winners will bowl for the last gold medal of the Championships in the title match starting at 3 p.m., while the losers share bronze.

274 girls and boys from record 48 countries, who must not have reached their 21st birthday on January 1, 2012, compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, four-player Team event, All Events and Masters in the ten-day event.
The WTBA patterns "Mexico City" and "Atlanta" will be used in Bangkok. The 45-foot Mexico City pattern is the second-longest of the twelve WTBA certified lane pattern (four short, four medium and four long). With a length of 38 feet, the Atlanta pattern is the shortest of the four medium pattern.
Singles was played on "Mexico City" and Doubles was contested on "Atlanta", while the Team event featured both oil patterns (3 games on each pattern).
The Masters will be staged on dual lane condition (one lane dressed with the medium pattern and the other lane dressed with the long pattern).
