P.J. Haggerty, Anita Manns selected 2005 BWAA Collegiate Bowlers of the Year

The Bowling Writers Association of America has selected Fresno State University sophomore P.J. Haggerty and Wichita State University senior Anita Manns as the 2005 male and female Collegiate Bowlers of the Year.
Haggerty, a Weimar, Calif., native, and Manns, from Austin, Texas, were honored during a special ceremony in conjunction with the 2005 Intercollegiate Bowling Championships, a United States Bowling Congress event, which runs April 20-23 in Rockford, Ill.
Haggerty, a member of Junior Team USA 2004 and 2005, helped Fresno State to its fourth straight IBC appearance. The 2004 American Bowling Congress Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow was a male division runner-up in last year's BWAA voting.
Anita Manns (pictured), a Junior Team USA 2003 member and 2003 Women's International Bowling Congress Alberta E. Crowe Star of Tomorrow, helped Wichita State to its 24th consecutive IBC appearance. Manns was a female division runner-up in last year's BWAA voting.
Team USA 2005 member Rhino Page, a University of Kansas junior from San Diego, was among four male runners-up. Others were: Ryan Ciminelli, freshman, Erie (N.Y.) Community College, Cheektowaga, N.Y.; Ivan Miyasato, junior, Fresno State, Aiea, Hawaii; and Russ Wilson, senior, Wichita State University, Savonburg, Kan.
Earning honorable mention were: David O'Sullivan, junior, Morehead State (Ky.) University, Yonkers, N.Y.; Shawn Ryan, junior, Central Florida University, New Port Richey, Fla.; and Junior Team USA 2005 member Brian Valenta, sophomore, Lindenwood (Mo.) University, Lockport, Ill.
2004 BWAA Female Collegiate Bowler of the Year and Junior Team USA 2005 member Elysia Current, a Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University sophomore from Ephrata, Pa., was among five female runners-up. Others were: Caroline Lagrange, junior, Wichita State, Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Quebec; Team USA and Junior Team USA 2005 member Stefanie Nation, junior, Central Florida, Miami; Karen Rosprim, sophomore, Fresno State, Hanford, Calif.; and Tina Stickney, senior, West Texas A&M University, Austin, Texas.
Earning honorable mention were: Lindsey Coulles, sophomore, Morehead State, Centerville, Ohio; and Megan Larson, junior, West Texas A&M, McKinney, Texas. In the female division, five runner-up and two honorable mention awards were given due to a tie for fifth place in the voting.
Manns and Haggerty also were honored as Most Valuable Players for the 2004-05 collegiate bowling season by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association.
