PBA Regional Roundup: PJ Haggerty wins seventh title in Tri Regions Open

2013PBAWestPJHaggerty.jpgPJ Haggerty (pictured left) of Roseville, Calif., posted a 10-6 match play record and a 28-game total of 7,050 pins Sunday to win his seventh career PBA Regional title in the Sands Regency Tri Regions Open presented by Radical. Haggerty, who earned $2,200, defeated Blaine Weninger of Happy Valley, Ore., by 212 pins.

In the companion PBA50 Open, Joe Goldstein Sr. of Hayward, Calif., went 8-4 and knocked down 5,883 total pins for 24 games to top Kevin Croucher of Grants Pass, Ore., for his second PBA50 West Region title and $1,500.

Leading into the weekend doubleheader, Robby Porter of Rancho Cordova, Calif., defeated Scott Hansell of Stockton, Calif., 300-216, to win Friday's Sands Regency Challenge presented by Radical. The Challenge was open to players who had never won a PBA title.

201213PBADickAllen.jpgDick Allen (right) of Columbia, S.C., and Carl Breaman of Greer, S.C., defeated the son-father team of Kyle and Guppy Troup of Taylorsville, N.C., to win the PBA South Region's Decker Appraisal Over/Under Doubles presented by Hammer at Wayne Lanes in Waynesboro, Va., Sunday.

Allen and Breaman swept the best-of three-game title match, 426-419 and 442-412, to give Breaman his first PBA title and Allen his 16th in PBA Regional competition. Each earned $1,700. Breaman had previously won a PBA South Region tournament in 1999, but didn't earn a title because he was a non-member at the time.
