The United States Bowling Congress Collegiate program has announced Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan., as the host of the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in 2007 and 2008.
"We are thrilled to be bringing the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships back to Wichita and Northrock Lanes," Director of USBC Collegiate Jeanne Klescewski said. "Factoring in the rich history the city of Wichita has with college bowling, there is no doubt in my mind that these events will be phenomenal."
Northrock Lanes, which is the largest bowling center in Kansas with 48 synthetic lanes, previously hosted the championships in 1999 and 2000. It also has been the site of Denny's Professional Bowlers Association Tour events as well as the 2004 Women's International Bowling Congress Queens and Championship Tournament.
"What a great year for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships to be coming back to Wichita," said Wichita host committee member and Strike Ten Entertainment Vice President of Sales & Activation Frank DeSocio, noting that longtime Wichita State University coach Gordon Vadakin will be inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame in March. "The city of Wichita has been a great supporter of bowling on all levels throughout the years."
The 2007 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will take place April 18-21, originally was slated to take place at Riverlanes in Tulsa, Okla.
"Unforeseen circumstances arose and Tulsa wasn't a viable option to host the championships this year," Klescewski said. "We will continue to work with the Tulsa and its convention and visitors bureau to bring future USBC Collegiate events to the area."
The USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, sponsored by Brunswick and Pepsi-Cola -- the "Official Soft Drink of Bowling," is the pinnacle event of the college bowling season, bringing together the top 16 men's and top 16 women's teams in the country to compete for national titles. The event culminates with a nationally televised final for the tournament's top men's and women's teams.
