Belmonte, Hoffman crack the 1400-bar to lead men's QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup after Day One Qualifying

In his very last tournament as an unmarried man, Jason Belmonte, the two-hander from Australia, came out of the gates quickly and took the lead on day one qualifying in the men's division at the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Belmonte (left) rolled games of 275, 244, 200, 223, 286 and 224 for a 1452 six-game series and an average of 242.00. Trailing by 19 pins to sit in second place was Bill Hoffman (right) from the United States. The two-time U.S. Amateur champion had a high game of 254 and a low game of 227 to finish with 1433 and an average of 238.83.
Ildemaro Ruiz (right), Venezuela, set the high light in Squad A in the fifth game when he rolled the first 300 game of this year's event and the 35th in the BWC history (the 29th by a man). Ruiz totaled 1393, a 232.17 average, good enough for third place.
Fourth place belonged to Paulo Lopes, Portugal, the surprise leader of Squad B, with 1385.
Another surprise was the fifth place of Alexey Parshukov (left) from the host country of Russia, who chalked up 1378 pins (229.67) including a 276 game.
Next was former PBA exempt player Andres Gomez (right), Colombia, who had six games over 200 including a268 high game en route to a 1365 pinfall total. Mohamed Al-Qubaisi, UAE, who was second in Squad B, slipped to seventh with 1349.
Rounding out the top 8 was Remy Ong (left), Singapore, who is the top lefthander in the field of 84 with 1333 (222.17).
Men's Division Block 1
All players will bowl 24 games of qualifying (4 blocks of six games from Sunday, Nov. 4 through Wednesday, Nov. 7) to cut to the top 24 men and top 24 women. The cutoff number is currently 1237 or a 206.17 average, by Dong Ho Lee, Korea.
Those 24 will bowl eight games with the qualifying pinfall being carried forward. The top 8 men and the top 8 women after 32 games will bowl another 8-game block to cut to the top 3 for the TV stepladder finals.
Bowlingdigital will cover the event live from St. Petersburg commencing November 3 all the way through to the finals on Sunday, November 10.
