2005 ABF Tour Tournament of Champions moves from Macao to Indonesia

The finals of the 2005 Asian Bowling Federation Tour, the ABFT Tournament of Champions, will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia and not in Macao as earlier announced. The top 16 men and the top 16 women of the ABF Tour point rankings will bowl for the coveted titles at Jaya Ancol Bowl January 5-8, 2006.

Among the qualifiers are the defending champions Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, and Wendy Chai, Malaysia. Wu finished fifth in the men's rankings while Chai, who won the Asian rankings this year, qualified in sixth position in the ABFT women's rankings.

Only the national team members of the leading Asian bowling nations can afford to bowl enough tournaments to qualify for the ToC.

The women's field consists of players from only four countries, while the men's field is more international with players representing ten countries. The most qualifiers (12) are from Malaysia, followed by the Philippines (6), Singapore and Chinese Taipei (3 each) and Hong Kong (2) with defending men's champion Wu (pictured).

The field is led by Malaysian internationals Alex Liew and Lai Kin Ngoh. Liew, who also finished the year as Asian ranking champion, captured two titles on the ABF Tour in Qatar and Indonesia and won the open tournaments in Bahrain and Indonesia. Lai won the ABF Tour Indonesia leg en route to win the women's point rankings.

All players will compete in a two-day round robin match play to cut to the top 8 for the one-game single elimination finals.
