Saginaw Valley State is joined by the UNLV men, defending women's champion Wichita State and the Pikeville women as the remaining undefeated teams. All four teams need to win just one match in the semifinals to advance to the finals, scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m. CDT Saturday.

Saginaw Valley State's Dan MacLelland, the 2007-08 NCBCA Most Valuable Player, is congratulated by his brother, Steve, after rolling the match-clinching strike in a 4-1 victory over Wichita State on Friday.

The championship matches will be taped for national broadcast on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV) at a later date. Live frame-by-frame scoring of the title matches will be available on bowl.com.

Saginaw Valley State, ranked No. 1 in the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Top 20, jumped out quickly and never looked back in defeating second-ranked Wichita State, 4-1, in front of a loud Wichita crowd to move into the semifinals.

"In their home center in front of their own crowd, it makes it that much more intense and more meaningful when you do beat them 4-1," said Saginaw Valley State senior Toby Sidle, whose Cardinals are looking to match the "three-peat" set by Wichita State from 1993 to 1995. "We got a few breaks early. They opened the door for us and we ran through it."

The Cardinals will have a rematch in the semifinals, set for 9 a.m. Saturday, with Wichita State, which stayed alive with a 4-0 sweep over Wisconsin-Whitewater. They'll be attempting to make the championship match for the fourth time in five years, but know they still have work to do.

"The goal remains the same: knock down 10 pins, fill frames, make spares," Sidle said. "You throw thousands of shots in your lifetime. There is nothing different."

UNLV, seeded No. 5, blitzed through its three matches - earning a 4-1 victory over Vincennes, 4-0 over Central Florida and 4-1 over Pikeville - to advance to its first semifinals in its second nationals appearance.

"Finally, all our hard work this season is paying off," said UNLV freshman anchor Brandon Allred, whose Rebels face Purdue in the other semifinal. "We've been working really hard fine-tuning everything and it's paying off when it counts. It's all clicking, but we have to keep looking at it as one frame at a time, one game at a time."

Top-seeded William Paterson was knocked out early, losing 4-2 to Arizona State and 4-1 to Purdue.

On the women's side, Pikeville senior Kayla Bandy and the Bears moved one step closer toward the program's second national title - rallying from a 3-1 deficit to outlast Lindenwood, 4-3, in the third round to advance to the semifinals undefeated.

"Our goal was to bowl ourselves and not try to beat anybody. Stay within our game," said Bandy, the two-time reigning NCBCA Most Valuable Player. "We were 100 percent into every shot. We set ourselves up well going into tomorrow."

The last time Pikeville was undefeated going into the semifinals came in 2005, when West Texas A&M defeated the Bears 4-0 and 4-0 to deny them the championship berth. Pikeville meets 2008 NCAA women's champion Maryland-Eastern Shore in the semifinals Saturday, needing to win only one match for a spot in the finals.

"It's far from over," said Bandy, who, along with senior Michelle McKay, was a part of the 2005 team. "We've got a long way to go."

Defending champion Wichita State, which owns a record eight national titles, closed in on No. 9 by gutting out a 4-3 victory over Purdue to move on undefeated. The Shockers, who are attempting to win their third national title in the last four years, face Morehead State in the semifinals.

The USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm, features the top 16 men's and top 16 women's college bowling teams in the country vying for national titles. All 32 teams competed in best-of-7, double-elimination match play in the Baker format Friday.
