Dale_Eagle_5176.jpg "The Eagle" has landed yet again. Dale Eagle picked up his 9th career PBA Senior Tour title Wednesday, defeating Tom Baker in the title match of the 2005 PBA Senior Clarksville Open, 2-0, at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center.

The victory snapped a 19-event winless streak for Eagle, who took home the $8,000 top prize. His nine career PBA Senior Tour titles rank him 4th all-time, alongside Pete Couture.

"I kept making decisions and took some chances. They paid off," said Eagle, who won the first game, 243-207, before defeating Baker in game two, 202-194. "The (oil pattern) kept changing on me real quick. I made quick adjustments, but they changed again in the 3rd or 4th frame of the second game. So, I kept changing my hand position and projection of the ball down lane."

Eagle, who was 24th after qualifying, advanced to the title match by dispatching the top qualifier, Dave Patchen, 3-1, in their best-of-five, Round of 8 match. He went on to defeat No. 13 Tim Kauble, 2-1, in the best-of-three semifinal round.

All told, Eagle averaged 233.24 in match play after he averaged 219.13 in qualifying. The 1999 PBA Senior Player of the Year went 6-1 over his final seven games in match play. Baker, Buffalo, took home $4,500 for 2nd. He defeated the 2004 PBA Senior Player of the Year Bob Glass, Lawrence, Kan., in the semifinals, 2-1.

His first career PBA Senior Tour title match appearance came in just his second career event. Baker, 50, is exempt on the PBA Tour through the 2008-09 season, thanks to his 2004 PBA World Championship victory.

The PBA Senior Tour now heads to Chillicothe, Ohio for the 2005 PBA Senior Chillicothe Open, April 30-May 4, at Shawnee Lanes.

Henry Gonzalez looking to win back-to-back

Henry Gonzalez needed 47 events over three-plus seasons before winning his first PBA Senior Tour title. Now, he's looking to win his second in as many weeks. Gonzalez, who won last week's 2005 PBA Senior Empire State Open in Latham, N.Y., defeated Michael Henry, 3-1, to advance to the Round of 16 in the 2005 PBA Senior Clarksville Open at Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center.

Gonzalez can become the first bowler to win back-to-back PBA Senior Tour events since Bob Glass accomplished the feat in 2001. After winning the first game, 226-212, Gonzalez took game two, 268-202. Henry fired back with a 256-195 game three win before Gonzalez ended the match with a 265-200 game four rout.

The victory capped a long day for Gonzalez, who bowled eight qualifying games to finish 30th overall with a 5,234 24-game pinfall. He then defeated Michael Chrzanowski, 3-2, in the Round of 32 before knocking off Henry.

In other matches, Tim Kauble defeated 11-time PBA Senior Tour title winner Gene Stus, 3-2. Kauble, winless in his first 45 PBA Senior Tour events, will face lefty Norb Wetzel in the Round of 16.

"It's in back of my mind," said Kauble of the possibility of winning his first career title. "There's so many good players out here. I just try to qualify and make my shots … if you think too far ahead you're not going to go anywhere."

The eight winners from the Round of 16 will bowl the top eight qualifiers in best-of-five match play Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT. The eight winners will face each other immediately following, with the winners advancing to the best-of-three semifinals at 7 p.m. Those winners advance to the championship match, also best-of-three, with the champion taking home the $8,000 top prize.

He averaged 222.0 over his 8-game set Monday evening at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center to overtake first round leader Tom Baker, who is second with 3,695.

Tom Baker takes first round lead again

Change can be a good thing, as PBA Hall of Famer Tom Baker found out Sunday evening. A late ball change Sunday in the opening round of qualifying in the 2005 PBA Senior Clarksville Open helped the PBA Hall of Famer take the early lead at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center.

Baker, who needed at least a 273 in his final game to take the lead, switched balls in the 10th frame of his 7th game of qualifying. That change contributed to a 279 in his 8th and final game giving him the lead with a 1,965 eight-game pinfall.

"I made some bad moves at first because the lanes were breaking down and I didn't adjust to it," said Baker of the oil pattern. "I had a good shot in the pocket, and I was just trying to make good shots. I have to get in the groove and repeat those shots."

Greg McMahan shot 236 in his final game to grab 2nd place with 1,964. Dave Patchen sits 3rd with 1,958 and is appearing in just his 5th PBA Senior Tour event.

Last week's 2005 PBA Senior Empire State Open champion, Henry Gonzalez, is 63rd with 1,671. The 2004 PBA Senior Player of the Year Bob Glass is tied for 76th with 1,646.

The 137-bowler field will return Monday for an additional eight games of qualifying. The field will then be cut to the top 1/3 who will bowl eight more games of qualifying on Tuesday. The top 32 will then advance to match play, with the top eight receiving a bye into the round of 8.

The rounds of 4 and 2 on Wednesday will feature best-of-three match play, with the winner taking home the $8,000 top prize.
