Mexico sweeps Mixed Team event at CONCABA Cambowl Junior

Corpeño and Lopez win their third gold medal

CONCABAlogo.jpg The Mexican mixed teams swept the titles in the under-15 and under-21 divisions at the CONCABA Cambowl Junior Championships in Panama.

Manuel Bustamante, Claudia Duarte, Ivan Narvaez and Valeria Corpeño led the under-15 division with 4606 six-game total and an average of 191.92. Corpeño, who won her third gold in as many events, posted the highest individual series of the division with 1298 including a 279 game, an average of 216.33.

Trailing the Mexicans by 253 pins to finish second was Panama with Nicole Fung, Juliette Mon, Anthony Rucas and Eduardo Florez. The four-some totaled 4353 pins and averaged 181.38.

Bronze went to David Valdivia, Cristina Moreno, Maribel Orozco and David Gurrola, also from Mexico, who checked in with 4255 (177.29).

Under 21 Singles and Mixed Doubles champion Tannya Lopez followed in the footsteps of team mate Corpeño when she teamed with Ana Rosa Gamboa, Nestor Almodovar and Carlos Castellanos to claim the Mixed Team title and her third gold medal. The Mexican were the sole team which managed a 200-plus average with 4857 pinfall total and an average of 202.38.

Their compatriots Rodrigo Arias, Lilia Aracelis Ojeda, Andrea Gonzalez and Eliud Martinez were 142 behind to secure the silver medal with 4715 (196.46). Bronze went to Laura Barrios, Zuly Galvez, Julio Abdo and Armando Batres from Guatemala, who had 4436 (184.83).

65 players - 33 boys and 29 girls - from five countries, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama, participate in the CONCABA (Confederación de Centroamérica y México de Boliche or Central America and México Bowling Confederation) Cambowl Junior championships in Panama City from Aug. 2-9, 2008.

The boys and girls compete in two categories, under 15 and under 21 years of age, in Singles, Doubles, Team and Masters.
