Puerto Rico and Venezuela win the Doubles titles in 2008 PABCON Senior Championships

Carlos Benitez and Jaime Almendro from Puerto Rico and Venezuela's Milda Dos Ramos and Suzanne Algernon captured the men's and women's Doubles titles in the 2008 PABCON Senior Championships Wednesday at Cibao Bowling Center in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
Almendro (left) had the field-best 1382 individual series, an average of 230.33, and Benitez added 1096 to win the gold medal with 2478 six-game total and an average of 206.50. Their team mates Antonio Santa (1314) and Bertin Velez (1137) were close behind to win the silver medal with 2451 (204.25).
Trailing the Puerto Ricans by mere three pins were Arnaldo Mercado and Hilton Nuñez, who captured the first medal for the host country with 2448 (204.00). The duo led the eventual winners after five games by one pin but a 374 final game cost them the title.
Singles champion Mike Aguilar and team mate Ronaldo Gabriel, Guatemala, had to settle for fourth place with 2406 (200.50)
On the women's side, Milda Dos Ramos (left, 1189) and Suzanne Algernon (1144) rolled the two highest individual series to cruise to victory with 2333 six-game total and an average of (194.42).
Silver and bronze went to Mexico. Guadalupe Garza and Ma. Eugenia Ambrosi beat out Singles gold and silver medalists Elsa Gonzalez and Fransuesa Sacre for second place by 15 pins, 2218 to 2203.
All players will return to the 24-laner on Thursday for the Trios event. 10 countries - Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panamá, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, United States, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic - with maximum four men and four women will compete in Singles, Doubles, Trios and four-player Team event (six games each) from Sep. 9-12.
The 2008 PABCON Senior Championships will conclude on Saturday, Sep. 13, with the men's and women's Masters finals.
