Gold for Puerto Rico and Mexico in Team event at PABCON Senior Championships

The Puerto Rican men and the Mexican women earned the titles in the 4-player team event in the 2008 PABCON Senior Championships at Cibao Bowling Center in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
Antonio Santa, Carlos Benitez, Jaime Almendro and Bertin Velez (pictured) felled 4980 pins and averaged 207.50 over six games to win the gold medal in the men's division by a comfortable margin.
Mexicans Agustin Camarillo Alva, Alfonso Rodriguez Saavedra, Juan Guillermo Lopez Gonzalez and Rigoberto Fernandez were 171 pins behind to earn silver with 4809 (200.38). Bronze went to Edward Roberts, Harry Mickelson, Phil Prieto and Rudy Moreno from the United States with 4745 (197.71).
On the women's side, Elsa Gonzalez, Fransuesa Sacre, Guadalupe Garza and Ma. Eugenia Ambrosi (pictured with coach Adriana Ortega, second from right) finished with 4405, an average of 183.54, to easily win the gold medal for Mexico.
Trailing the Mexicans by 227 pins to land in second place were Ibette Gonzalez, Milda Dos Ramos, Suzanne Algernon and Trina Andrade from Venezuela with 4178 (174.08). Bronze went to Puerto Rico with Ashie Gonzalez, Edna Marcial, Myrna Flores and Vivian Noble, who totaled 3966 (165.25).
Alfonso Rodriguez and Fransuesa Sacre, both Mexico, claimed the gold medals in All Events (combined results in Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team event).
Rodriguez had three 1300-plus series en route to win the men's title with 5207 pinfall total, an average of 216.96 for 24 games. Mike Aguilar, Guatemala, was second with 5134 (213.92) and Antonio Santa, Puerto Rico, third with 4972 (207.17).
Sacre beat out fellow country woman Elsa Gonzalez for the gold medal in the women's division by 65 pins, 4543 to 4478. The winner averaged 189.29 for her 24 games. Bronze went to Milda Dos Ramos, Venezuela, with 4422.
The top 16 men and the top 16 women in All Events advanced to the Masters finals, which will conclude the 2008 PABCON Senior Championships.
31 men and 20 women from 10 countries - Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panamá, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, United States, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic - participated in the event.
