Breeschoten, Pittens win Dutch QubicaAMF World Cup national finals

    2008BWCNLLisanneBreeschotenMaartenPittens.jpg Lisanne Breeschoten and Maarten Pittens won the QubicaAMF World Cup national finals Sunday in Scheveningen, Netherlands. The winners will represent their country in the 44th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup from November 7-15, 2008 in Hermosillo, Mexico.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women after six games of qualifying advanced to the finals. Breeschoten and Richard van Dongeren led the field, both with 1365 pinfall total, an average of 227.50. Pittens made the first cut in 12th place with 1275.

    2008BWCNLTop3Women.jpg After another six games with the qualifying total being carried forward, the top 8 in each division advanced to seven games round robin match play plus position round (20 pins bonus per win, 5 pins bonus for games over 200 and 10 pins bonus for games over 250) to determine the winner.

    John Bosch rolled a 1340 in the second block to lead the men with 2623 12-game total and an average of 218.58. Pittens moved to fifth place with 2570 behind a 1295 series. Carmen Haandrikman overtook the lead in the women's division with 2509 (209.08). Breeschoten, who finished the second series with 163 and 1133 was mere 11 pins behind in second place.

    2008BWCNLTop3Men.jpg Breeschoten (214, 215, 237, 224, 233, 196, 201) and Pittens (209, 214, 237, 228, 268, 216, 195) earned the No. 1 seed after round robin but lost the lead at halfway point of the position round matches against No. 2 seeds Haandrikman and Robin Geeris.

    Breeschoten and Pittens rebounded with a bunch of strikes in the second half to both win the matches and the tournament. Breeschoten defeated Haandrikman, 233-227, while Pittens topped Geeris, 226-206, to secure the ticket to Hermosillo. It will be the first World Cup appearance for both players.
