Philippines sweep Masters titles to end Southeast Asian Games

2005SEAGLogo.jpg Markwin Tee and Liza Clutario of the host country Philippines ended the 23rd Southeast Asian Games at Pearl Bowling Center in Paranaque City, Philippines, with victories in the men's and women's Masters.

Clutario posted two big scores (225-235) en route to win the gold medal in the women's Masters finals. In the championship match over two games total pinfall, Clutario topped second-seeded Jazreel Tan, Singapore, 460-372. Tan had secured the silver medal with a 203-156 victory in the opening match against Indonesia's Putty Armein.

In the men's final Tee, the No. 2 seed, ousted Singles champion Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia in the opening match, 196-179, for the right to bowl tournament leader Remy Ong of Singapore for the title. Tee carried the momentum from his semifinal win into the title match as he shot games of 200 and 237 to cruise to the title, 437-366.

Ong will meet the winner of the opening match between Markwin Tee, Philippines, and Ryan Lalisang, Indonesia.

Liza Clutario of the host country posted a 1850 eight-game series (231,25 average) in the second block of round robin on the short pattern en route to take the No. 1 seed for the women's Masters finals. Indonesia's Putty Armein, who led the 16 women after the first block on long oil with 1858 slipped to third. She will take on second-seeded Jazreel Tan, Singapore, in the opening match of the stepladder finals.

Putty Armein and Remy Ong lead Masters at halftime

Remy Ong, who shot a 300-game in the team event on short oil, rolled his second perfecto during the first 8-game block of the Masters competition on long oil pattern. The Singaporean leads the 16-player field with an average of 237,00 and a 1941 grand total. Ong felled 1896 pins and compiled a 4-3-1 won-lost-tie record including a 269-tie against Aaron Kong from Malaysia.

Singles champion Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia won all but one match to sit in second place with 1911 pinfall total. All Events leader Daniel Lim of Malaysia also went 7-1 in match play to land in third with 1902.

2004ABF05INAPuttyArmein.jpg Doubles and Trios champion Putty Armein targets her third gold medal of the Games as she led the women's division with 232,25 average and a 1918 pinfall total. The Indonesian had a 6-2 won-lost record in the first block on long oil.

Jazreel Tan of Singapore is second with 1891 after winning three of her eight matches today. Liza Clutario from the host country Philippines compiled a 5-3 record to hold the third place with 1862.

The second block of the women's masters on short oil is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Sunday while the men continue at 2 p.m. The top 3 bowlers after 16 games will advance to the grand finals starting at 4:30 p.m.
