Colombia sweeps gold medals in Mixed Doubles at CONCECABOL Adult and Youth Championship

Angie Ramirez wins her second gold medal of the championships

Paola Gomez/Jorge Otalora and Angie Ramirez/Daniel Melo from Colombia earned the gold medals in Mixed Doubles in the Adult and Youth divisions, respectively, Wednesday at the CONCECABOL Adult and Youth Championship in Panama.

Gomez (1300) and Otalora (1331 rolled the highest individual six-game series for a combined 2631 pinfall total to win the title in the Adult Division with 219.25 average. Singles and Doubles champion Aumi Guerra, Dominican Republic, teamed with Rolando Antonio Sebelen to win the silver medal with 2559 (213.25). Bronze went to Guatemala's Zussette Machon and Miguel Aguilar, with 2481 (206.75).

Aguilar, who rolled a 1296 series moved to the top of the men's All Events after 18 of 24 games. Guerra continued to lead the women's All Events and Gomez moved into second place.

In the Youth Division, Angie Ramirez, Colombia won her second title of the championships after her victory in Singles when she teamed with Daniel Melo to win the Mixed Doubles with 2533 and an average of 211.08. Ramirez had 1268 and Melo added 1265. Second place went to Aida Sanchez and two-time champion Fidel Marchena, who finished mere six pins behind with 2527 (210.58). Puerto Rico's Valerie Ruiz and Israel Hernandez were a distant third with 2389 (199.08).

A total of 65 players - 16 boys, 13 girls, 20 men and 16 women - from 10 countries, Aruba, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and the host country of Panama participate in the CONCECABOL (Central and Caribbean Bowling Confederation) Adult and Youth Championship from March 14-21, 2009 at Albrook Bowling in Panama City, Panama.

Players compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Mixed Team, All Events and Masters.
