Costa Rica (Adult) and Puerto Rico (Youth) capture the Team titles in CONCECABOL Championship

Reyna, Guerra, Marchena, Ramirez and Colombian teams triumph in All Events

The Costa Rican men and women and the boys and girls from Puerto Rico captured the title and the first gold medals for their country in the CONCECABOL Adult and Youth Championship Thursday at Albrook Bowling in Panama City, Panama.

Federico Reyna, Andres Fallas, Viviana Delgado and Marie Ramirez finished the six-game block with team games of 851 and 871 to claim the gold medal in the Adult Division with 4882 pinfall total and an average of 203.42.

Jorge Otalora, Santiago Mejia, Sara Vargas and Paola Gomez from Colombia, who led the field after three games fell just 31 short to earn the silver medal with 4851 (202.13).

Puerto Rico with Edgardo Ruiz, Francisco Valiente, Yoselin Leon and Monica Guzman were another 40 pins behind to take the bronze medal with 4811 (200.46).

Colombia lead the field in Country All Events with an average of 207.44, followed by the Dominican Republic (204.02) and Costa Rica (203.13.

Federico Reyna used his 1214 series from the team event to help grab the title in men's All Events (combined results from Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Team) with 5152 24-game total and an average of 214-67. Miguel Aguilar, Guatemala, received silver with 5117 (213.21) and Francisco Valiente, Puerto Rico, got bronze with 5093 (212.21).

Aumi Guerra, Dominican Republic, outaveraged all players - men and women - with a score of 5301 and an average of 220.83 to easily win her third gold medal of the championships. Paola Gomez and Sara Vargas earned silver and bronze with 5025 and 4872.

In the Youth division, Israel Hernandez, Anibal Marin, Yesenia Castillo and Valerie Ruiz from Puerto Rico cruised to the team title outaveraging the rest of the field by at least 10 pins. Led by Marin's 1269 the Puerto Rican's totaled 4811 pins, a team average of 200.46.

Daniel Melo, Harvey Ramos, Angie Ramirez and Jessica Gutierrez from Colombia were a distant second to earn the silver medal with 4566 (190.25). Panama's Carlos Torres, Juan Antonio Castillo, Nicole Fung and Juliette Mon took the bronze with 4308 (179.50).

The youth team from Colombia followed in the footprints of the adult team as they secured the Country All Events title with an average of 193.97. Puerto Rico fell 51 pins short to take the silver medal with 193.44, while Guatemala secured the bronze medal with 182.94.

Fidel Marchena, Dominican Republic, and Angie Ramirez, Colombia, both got their third gold medal of the championships by winning the boys and girls All Events. Marchena led the boys field with 5239 24-game total and an average of 218.29. Alberto Lizano, Costa Rica, was second with 5079, with Israel Hernandez, Puerto Rico in third, 5024.

Ramirez had a 323-pin cushion to claim the girls title with 4822 and an average of 200.92. Pamela Monzon, Guatemala, landed in second place with 4499, with Valerie Ruiz, Puerto Rico, in third, 4388.

The top eight players in All Events from each division (men, women, boys, girls) advanced to the Masters finals, which will conclude the CONCECABOL Adult and Youth Championship on Friday.

A total of 65 players - 16 boys, 13 girls, 20 men and 16 women - from 10 countries, Aruba, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and the host country of Panama participate in the CONCECABOL (Central and Caribbean Bowling Confederation) Adult and Youth Championship from March 14-21, 2009 at Albrook Bowling in Panama City, Panama.

Players compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Mixed Foursome, All Events and Masters.
