Wu Siu Hong powers his way into the lead in 38th Philippine Open

    2008BHROpenWuSiuHong.jpgHong Kong's star Wu Siu Hong (pictured left) rolled the second 300 game of the 38th Philippine International Open Championships currently underway at Paeng's Midtown Bowl in Manila, Philippines, en route to overtake the lead in the men's Open Masters qualifying and the Singles event.

    The 25-year-old, who was using a 15-lbs. Hammer Black Widow, rolled 300-247-257 to set the pace in Singles with 804 pinfall total and an average of 268.00. He added series to his previous high of 700 to become the first player in this year's event, who cracked the 1500-bar. Siu Hong leads the men's Overseas Pool with 1504 six-game total and an average of 250.67.

    His compatriots Wicky Yeung and Ken Lin sit in second and third place with 1422 and 1408, respectively. Richie Poblete held on to the lead in the Local Pool with 1407.

    45 men - the top 12 each from the Local and Overseas Pool, the top 15 from the Local & Overseas Pool, two Overseas Filipinos plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - will join defending champion Benshir Layoso, Philippines, in the finals.

    Lara Posadas from the Philippines held on to the lead in the women's Open Masters qualifying with 1348 pinfall total (690 and 658) and an average of 224.67. Long-time Philippines national team member Liza Del Rosario, World Champion in Trios in 2003, is second with 1304 (217.33).

    Milki Ng, Hong Kong, improved her total to 1280 and continued to lead in the women's Overseas Pool with an average of 213.33. Tang Joh Six, Malaysia, moved into second place with 1257. Sylvia Kong, Hong Kong, is third with 1238.

    29 women - the top 6 each from the Local and Overseas Pool, the top 13 from the Local & Overseas Pool plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - will join defending champion Krizziah Tabora, Philippines, in the finals.
